Driving home last night I was on a dual carriageway approaching the M62 junction in Huddersfield. The lanes are pretty narrow and there are always loads of parked cars with just a wheel left on the road in the left lane. I was on the left with a car in front of me and a truck in front of him, there were some cars a little further back behind me.

The truck started to slow and I got the impression he was about to stop for some reason so I indicated and pulled out, lifting off the gas pedal because I expected the guy in front to do the same. He sat there for a second then realised what was happening and the truck slowed more so the guy put his indicator on. I was already leaving a gap for him so I just flashed my headlights and let him out, by this time I've shed about 10-15mph because my foot's off the gas to keep the gap big enough to let a car out.

He pulls out and then I hear the sound of tyres dragging along tarmac as the guy who *was* miles behind me is now basically in my boot because he must have been in some kind of dreamworld and hadn't realised that I was slowing a little, he braked way too late and skidded. I braced myself for another shunt but it never happened, thank God! I just carried on and sped back up again, leaving the guy behind me (in a Frontera or something) stationary in the middle of the road with a small queue of cars forming behind him. He must have been a lot more shocked than me, I'm pretty desensitised now!

You'd think with it getting dark and the weather being rainy/icy/snowy etc that people would try to pay more attention and keep their eyes on the road etc!

Safe motoring everyone! :)

wife was coming off the motorway and down the sliproad in the right hand lane (ready to go round the roundabout at the bottom).

Guy in front decides to slam on his brakes and stop dead in the right hand lane. puts on his hazards and gets out and starts scraping his window.

According to wife there was chaos left behind!

The guy probably tried to wash his windscreen and it instantly froze.

Glad you are OK Shude!

Last night I was overtaking a BMW 323 which suddenly decided it was fed up following a lorry on a dual carriageway so it just changed lanes. Right towards the side of me. I hit the anchors and made for the 3ft of grass before the crash barrier! At the very last sec the blond female driver (sorry) realised that she was pushing me off the road and pulled back in behind the lorry. The Mercs electronics as usual did the full biz, enabling me to emergency stop and steer at the same time. She had her kids on board as I did mine. Are mirrors an option on BMWs now?;)

forgot to add that I drove past a golf sitting on top of a dry-stone wall this morning!

No idea how he did that, but the rubber-neckers caused a massive queue :(

I think new BMW owners shoot straight to the toys section of the options list and forget to check out the ones for indicators and mirrors!
It is not my imagination, seeing the indicators flashing on a BMW is *rare*. I don't know why this is though, you get the other odd car not indicating but for some reason BMWs seem to never indicate. Plenty of MBs too but BMW are the clear leader in that area of motoring annoyances.

happens so often doesn't it - you're looking ahead can see what's coming and prepare, and yet you know the one/s in front of you are oblivious

Glad you're OK chuck ;)
