Howdy

Been in my 53 reg C Class Sports coupe for a few months now and the audio is one area that I would like to improve

However, with the system being integrated into the steering and main dash, what is available and compatible?

I have one of the pre facelift models, so its a single CD tuner - AUDIO 10?

I have the spare slot underneath - but what is available and feasible
Not after street shaking volume - not looking to change the passible speakers, but for convinience (and looks) what system are there?

Can you get hold of the new fit Audio 20 and would it indeed fit?

PS this is first MB, so new to much of what is around and the issues faced - though straightforward extraction and plugging in is somthing I can do.

Many thanks

The way i see it you will firstly need a new facia adapter. I believe Autoleads make one. Then this will give access to a new head unit. I would recomend Alpine head units as you can buy seperete canbus adapters to make the display on the speedometer and the steering wheel controls still work. Have you got a budget on this project ?

Fascia adapter????

Oooh err?

Was hoping for a straight fit!

Before going aftermarket, would like to know if the Audio 20 OEM is around and available (outside of the main steeler network) and if it will fit?

Budget will be what it needs to be, but I am looking for low impact to car - or I'll stay stay midly frustrated.

Cheers

Oh i see your not so much after aftermarket in that case the only other two place you could get the Audio 20 unit from are a breakers yard or ebay. If your lucky you may get it for relitively cheap from those places

The newer style Audio 20 from the facelift C Class will not fit I'm afraid. For OEM you're limited to Audio 30 (with or without SatNav IIRC) or COMAND.

COMAND will achieve what you want in the looks department filling both slots. Don't think it will improve the sound but I could be wrong!

There are some decent aftermarket solutions, but for many people OEM is the only way to go!

Alfie on this forum can supply & fit COMAND visit www.comand.co.uk for more information or send him a PM if you're interested in this avenue.

i just opt'ed for an aftermarket alpine head unit does the job great and also kept the same speakers too!!

I myself would go for a Alpine solution :p

Will be sticking with Audio 10 me thinks

Had it out, cleaned connectors (bit gruby surprisingly) & the CD player and all is well.

The prices for OEM Audio 30 etc just a leeeetle bit steep

thanks for the advice though
