...did it take to receive your letter thru' post?

I appreciate they have a statuatory 14 days, but do they take that long?
Im sure I was caught 1 week ago, but have heard nothing so far.

Technically, if the ticket/penalty notice is not issued after 18/19 days after the date of the offence then you are in the all clear. I'm afarid that you are going to have to sit this one out - in some cases penalty notices are processed in less than a week.

Where do you get the 18/19 days advice?

I was flashed by a Truvelo about 9 months ago, I know I set it off because I was doing 40 in a 30 (I had some idiot tailgating me). I got a NoiP about a month later, disregarded it as the date on the NoiP was 26 days after the offence. I haven't heard from them since. :\

This type of excuse makes my blood boil!! (not really) :) So what if there is someone 'tailgating' you! They are without doubt committing an offence, but to use that as an excuse, beggars believe. When do you decide that you are not going to travel any faster? By paying attention to the idiot behind is distracting you from paying full attention to the hazards in front.

How do we get on with a business vehicle. If the NOIP is served on the registered keeper within the required time, but it then takes a few weeks for the driver to be identified is that an excuse?

I am totally against revenue type speed camera's but speeding in highly populated area's, outside schools, shops etc should be punished and why should drivers get off on technicalities?

John

What if he was speeding outside a school but at 2AM in the morning?

What if the vehicle tailgating him was an LGV and he considered that braking for the speed camera would be more dangerous than breaking the speed limit at that point?

Lets have some sense please.

Common sense is quite clearly a dying talent. All speed limits are usually clearly visible, street lighting will also dictate 30mph unless otherwise stipulated. Having a LGV behind you is precisely that. It is behind you. It is NOT an excuse to break the law. If you want to exceed the speed limit outside of a school at 2am, then that is your choice.

Lets all do what we want and blow the law. I hate revenue camera's but if I get caught I will certainly not cry about it, nor blame someone for tailgating.

We are all perfect drivers and woe betide anyone that dares point out a bad habit, or something that is wrong.

I want to see someone come up with a camera that automatically takes a lovely picture of the driver of any vehicle that radiates a cell phone in use signal - and yes , it is easily possible .

I reckon that a £1000 fine and destruction of the phone should be enough .

I am afraid John , in these times of raving loonies who will cut off your head for the contents of your ashtray - I also tend to move away from tailgaters .
I did it about two years ago , unfortunately it was an unmarked car . The woodentop thought he was going to press the point about a speed infringement , but changed his mind when I asked for his name and shoulder number to make a complaint under S38 of the Police act (which actually refered to powers of police regarding issue of a FAC) , and refered to the fact thatif his front bumber wasn't in my boot , I wouldn't have driven away from him , he was driving dangerously , and I took the necessary action - he declined to proceed for some reason .
Lots of things wind me up - parking in disabled bay (though I have no need of one) , zig-zags , mobile phones in general .

Easily possible to distinguish between one being used hand-held, and one being legally used hands-free?

Going way off topic I know, but the use of mobile phones seems to be getting more common. We were stationary at a crossroads waiting to pull out onto the main road. low and behold, directly opposite, pulling out of the side road onto the main road was an ambulance with the driver using a mobile phone with his right hand!!!!!

The bus drivers round here are all on them all the time .... sometimes i stand there and ask them a question as i get on board just to annoy them ...

Either that or a boombox propped up in the cab listening to the football / cricket (delete as appropriate) .....;)

You can tell if not hands free - the driver has it held against his head if not . If the fine is sufficient , then a bit of human intervention in sorting the photos would be justified .

People rely to much on the damned things !
I just love wandering around the supermarket with some daft old bat standing with a Starstruck coffee in one hand and a phone glued to her ear , right in the middle of the bacon counter - I go into "fighter pilot" mode and launch a full frontal attack on ankles with my HGV trolley - accompanied by "take that damned phone out of your ear and SHIFT it ".
Honestly , people can't even sit on the pot without their bloody phone.

Way off topic now gents....

I got the notice after about a week. 36 in a 30. MY fault - took the points, and the fine.

J.

Bloody hell! I thought the self-righteous brothers on Harry Enfield were militant. OI! WOMAN! NO!

I'll make a mental note to avoid you in the supermercado!

Was it a festive starbucks coffee? the secret to talking on the pot is to put the phone on mute when your flushing

That actually raises quite an interesting point in the fact that the government do actually use the fines they issue to gain revenue.

If the above was in force you would not dare to look at your phone whilst driving. As with speeding if you were to get a £1000 fine and I wont be as harsh to say years ban but maybe retake you driving test in 6 months or a ban then I am sure we would soon see a reduction in the number of cars speeding. But also a significant drop in revenue for the government.

And don't you think that driving with a phone wedged in your ear is amongst one of the most dangerous things you can do ?
Everybody gets on the anti drink drive bandwagon , but some ***** on a phone while driving is still considered acceptable by some .

And yes , I find some idiot with a phone in the middle of a super market ignorant and selfish - and when they have a starbucks festive rum and xmas tree flavour coffee in one of those stupid cups with a spout for those so feeble minded that they can't drink without spilling it . You pay £4 for a cup of muddy water and don't take the time to sit and enjoy it - but wander around like Richard Branson making international business deals in Tesco's .

Good idea , if you are so selfish as to stand like a loon upsetting me pretending to be an international business tycoon in a supermarket .

A fitting punishment would be having your head clamped in the bacon slicer and 25 slices removed .
