If you have been caught by speed camera/van how long....

You pay £4 for a cup of muddy water and don't take the time to sit and enjoy it -
:D :) That appeals to my sense of humour,
I have never had the 'priviledge' of buying a cardboard\plastic container of hot mud (or coffee);) but somehow if I did, I cannot imagine enjoying it! More likely I might seek the good services of KLP, his friends, brothers, cousins etc  :o :)

Thanks for the smile,
John

The problem I have with 'safety camera' vans is they tend to be used where they know they will catch the most people rather than accident blackspots or schools.
Vans are all about revenue, nothing else.

That actually raises quite an interesting point in the fact that the government do actually use the fines they issue to gain revenue.

If the above was in force you would not dare to look at your phone whilst driving. As with speeding if you were to get a £1000 fine and I wont be as harsh to say years ban but maybe retake you driving test in 6 months or a ban then I am sure we would soon see a reduction in the number of cars speeding. But also a significant drop in revenue for the government.

There was talk a while back that you would only get two points per speeding conviction, hence raising the ammount of revenue raised before the ban:rolleyes:

It's called keeping the junkie hooked.

Same reasoning is used for oil pricing, when people start looking for alternatives OPEC drop the price for a while.

I was flashed by a Truvelo about 9 months ago, I know I set it off because I was doing 40 in a 30 (I had some idiot tailgating me.)

I have a solution for this. If I think someone is too close or driving like a t*** I just slow down for a while. They soon get he message then it's business as normal.
This is especially funny when you get someone determined not to let you in when traffic merges from two lanes into one. They tailgate you to prove a point so I just slow off from the car in front and if they flash I give them a wave.:)

Way off topic now gents....

I got the notice after about a week. 36 in a 30. MY fault - took the points, and the fine.

J.

Took me about 2 weeks to get the notice (just under). 37 in a 30 - totally my fault - slip of concentration or just didn't realise I was entering a 30. I will pay more attention in the future - timely reminder.

£60 fine plus a 3 hour Speed Awareness Course - taking place this Friday - looking forward to it really! Hopefully they won't ask to see the car I was driving ;)

We must of had the same driving instructor! That's what I do.:) Naughty, but oh so funny.

36mph and your 37, seem a bit severe. It looks like the days of not prosecuting speeds below 40mph have been confined to the history books? I suppose though your speedometer was possibly displaying a speed of 40mph?

Two views on this John.

1; Maybe a bit severe, but its still speeding. 1 mph is still speeding. Granted the speedo might be out - but 20% or more out would be very bad. Particularly since most speedo's are designed to read OVER what the actual speed is (thereby avoiding any possible consequences of being sued for a faulty device resulting in a criminal prosecution).

2; In my case a van took a picture, sent a letter. I didn't get stopped, i knew I'd been hit (laser sensor went off on the origin unit). Maybe a real policeman might have let me off - I don't know. (It did work once - driving the wrong way in central London - 'Can you tell me why you drove up here Sir ?' 'I'm stupid'. 'Thankyou sir - now turn round and go please.')

Isn't that a fundamental problem with laser detectors - by the time they go off it's too late?!

hi John

Mine was reading 40 - I honestly thought I was in a 40 zone. I made a mistake and deserve everything I get ;) Course is tomorrow morning - beats sitting at work for three hours :D

Sometimes they pick up some scatter - and can warn before the main laser beam hits you. The police sometimes fire twice to make sure the gun isn't giving a spurious warning, if you can brake in time you might get away with it.

Most of the time you are scuppered though.

I did the course on Friday.
Thoroughly recommend it. Not withstanding the fact you don't get points on your license, I actually learnt quite a bit too. All the stuff you knew when you did your test get's refreshed in a very grown up way. The instructors are casual and relaxed, and the content of the course is informative and relevant.
Three hours well spent. :)

Well said and what a shame the instructors are not all like the one you were fortunate to have. A friend down here went to one and every person on the course was treated like a naughty school child that was a law breaker. Yes they did break the law by speeding, but like my old Sergeant used to say, "The day you pass your driving test, is the day you start picking up bad habits!" These courses should be there to do EXACTLY what you were fortunate to have. A quick refresher and perhaps a bit of forward observation along with some defencive driving tips!

Well done and great news that you did not win any points. Points do NOT always make prizes. :)

Regards,
John

Got an NIP yesterday. 7 days after the alleged offence. Happy Christmas, not
