Presumably some are. I do know of an elderly person (who is not stupid, but is in his 80's, had a TLA a few years ago so is perhaps not quite as sharp as he was) that got scammed whilst online. Gave some scrote permission to Remote Desktop his laptop, whereupon they installed dodgy software.
Fortunately he realised what was happening shut the laptop down and asked for help. A family member in the banking system stepped up and put a stop on his accounts before any money was taken. The laptop was taken to a local specialist and was 'cleansed'. But could have been a different outcome.
The people behind these scams must be doing it for a reason. I read an article a while back that said, some of the bad grammar and spelling mistakes are used deliberately to filter out the more discerning 'victims'.
