Car
R129 SL500
After a brief dalliance with an E220 Cdi (Eponymous German Taxi) which was a perfect steed for me and my elderly father (his car originally, enough said) on a week long tour of Scotland, I now have a proper Mercedes-Benz.

1998 Special Edition SL500 with Panoramic roof. Bought cheap off of Pistonheads with a clear mind knowing that I will be doing all the fluids and the normal consumables of a car with 146K miles. i.e. Diff bushes, front ARB bushes etc. Have already replaced the steering idler bushes and drag links. Once all that is done I will feel happy to embark upon the trip to Monaco I have promised my lovely wife.

About -8º I think.

I flipping love this car.:thumb:

Welcome. Nice car. Nice trip

Thank you. Going to the Classic GP and then a tour of Provence and that was the reason for the purchase. Was thinking of Boxster or MX-5 but for the same money as a cheap one of those the SL was a no-brainer. Even with the higher running costs and fuel costs, there is nothing that can really compete with the solid, quality feel of the R129.

Will be re-tracing the route I took with my Dad in Scotland in the SL too. This time with the lovely Mrs Tankman and most likely during one of the weeks of the Olympics and try to stay in places that do not have TV, Radio, Newspapers etc.
