in car temp gauge

mine hit 30 today on motorway near junc 8 m 61 chorley then dropped to 28 as we neared blackpool....but it was freezing in the car though serious chill factor any higher reading out there

Felt sorry for a member of our staff that was manning the kebab machines.

I tend to find the in car temperature gauge over reads by about 2-3 degrees in the heat. The only thing I could think of is that the road surface tends to heat up and will feel hotter than the true ambient temperature & the temperature probe is closer to the ground therefore getting a higher reading.

Anyone else noticed this?

40 degrees in glasgow today when the car was sitting. Came down to 34 when the car was moving.

yup, I note that the temp always goes up 1-2C when I join a motorway, and down again when I leave. All those cars heating up the road?

yup - I've noticed the same too, usually from the standing start when it's been parked though. The 31.5 I got was on a normal road, but I'm not sure it was a true reading.

I once saw 46 on mine in Isaba, northern Spain.
Half an hour later it was at 16 in thick fog coming back over the Pyrennees.(sp?)

I saw 38.5 on mine a few weeks ago in Derby never seen it that high since,and the cars was parked away from the sun.
