Inside my fuel tank

Yer! yours is considerably easy than mine
Hopefully I only have to do it once! fingers X

the good news is that i've run the tank down low since several times and not had any more problems. i still do plan on removing and having a look at it in the summer (will be about a year after replacement) to see how its getting on. i'm assuming you may just risk it :D

Indeed, I've already got a spare gallon of fuel in the boot.

Tank out

Picked up my new strainer this week ready to change.

Pulled out boot lining and undid 4 x bolts holding tank in to see how easy it is (didn't want to take out fully as need spanner to fit strainer hex)

Is the tank stuck to the back panel with pads? mine started to come free but could hear sticky tape noise?

Cheers,

It rests on sticky foam pads. Just lift it out. You won't need a special spanner for the strainer as it will be seized onto the pipe coupling.
I'd be surprised if you can't just clean the old strainer up.

I can't remember the 'tape thing', nothing on the outside walls of the tank as I recall either.
It is a bit of a jiggle to get it out though.

Afternoon DM,

Ahh, thanks for that - I dont even have a wrench big enough for the hex on the strainer itself, I though my trusty adjustable spanner would open up that big, but nooooo :p

The tank should've been covered in soundproofing felt, well it is on later ones.

I think I might put one in too..and go for the biggie...

Done it yet?
I did it today, I must have been at the last 1 Ltr, then I put 7 Ltrs in and the warning light was out for about 2-5 miles.

Do you run on veg, DM? LOL, the car of course :D

I had to use a massive pipe wrench :p

Yup, that should do it - I tend to do a bit of a 'dry fit' with these things as something always tends to catch me out when the car is in a pile of bits around me -

Cheers for the help,

That was a marathon, not easy at all - I need a banana after that :bannana:

Wanted to do the diff while underneath but my allan sockets only go up to 12mm, looks like 13/14mm

Cheers for the help,

The strainer requires a 22mm allen key to remove it. However with this costing about £30 odd I decided to buy a convertor that converts the allen key fitment into a normal bolt type fitting. I bought this from eBay seller 'biker-bitz'. Once you have this all you need is a standard 22mm socket:

OMG, Spock :D Thats Nasty.
1st prize goes to you for the nastyest one!
Any advance on that?
Andy...

I feel like I have just gone through some sort of W210 initiation and now belong to the elite "strainer club" :bannana:

Man, how much labour would that be down a main dealer?

>SilverSaloon, there's two types of strainer nether can be used for your tea ;) the one needed the hex bolt for the estate and the other needing a very large wrench -

Where you ref to the hex allen key for the diff mentioned in my post?

Just my old Nokia 6500 slide.
