Inside of the windscreen is wet and frozen

My girlfriend's car this morning has got frost on the inside of the windscreen, which took her a long time to clear away. The car is a brand new 308 Pug with only 100 miles.

I've not come across this before.

Apart from giving myself a good telling off for not buying another Merc, is this a problem and should I take it to the dealer pronto?

HD

Probably has a leak somewhere. Drive with the A/C on to help dry it out.

Spoken to Poogo service department at local dealer. On a new car, the chemicals used to treat the fabric and prevent stains, release moisture in the cars first few weeks, which if not dried out using A/C collects on the screen, and can be made even worse if the recirculating air function is left on.

I expect this is possible, but this is the first time it's ever happened to us. HD

silly as it sounds, are you sure all the windows are fully closed?

the seat treatment stuff sounds plausable. it could otherwise be a bad seal somewhere.

whatever it is, if it continues then it needs to be rectified under warranty. its unacceptable on a new car IMO.

Reading the OP again....

If there is enough moisture to be a frozen mess, I reckon the car needs looking at.

A moisture film is one thing. The last time I encountered frost on the inside of a windscreen was on an Austin 1300... nuff said!

That's what I wondered. Girlfriend says not.

The dealer service dept were pleasant, but said there's nothing they can do because they can't recreate frosty mornings at the dealer.

Girlfriend's got the hump with me over it! Her view.... "You bought it, so it's all your fault" :p

We'll try the a/c tomorrow and see what happens. Car is doing short journeys too, so it's not getting hot inside.

There, fixed it for you ;)

I'd say that there's water in the car somewhere. Feel around the carpets in the footwells for damp patches.

Hmm sounds like a fob off to me...Can't believe any new car should behave in this way unless a seal is not intact...

i believe they can. its a new, fancy system that includes leaving your car in their carpark overnight and them looking at it in the morning  and then rectifying the fault.

We think along similar lines. They're happy to do that - but they can't(wont?) give a courtesy car this week, or next.

If car not being driven far, will never get time to dry out.....I recetnly had to drive my father-in-law's car down from huddersfield....he had not driven if for a while and it was quite damp inside.....appeared dry wheh I got down but damp inside to all windwos next moring...this in a 7 year old car with no apparetn leaks.

My own car is dry but kept outside....I put a fan heatier in it on frosty monings for 10 mins and this deices the car and esnrues that the windows do not mist up....you coudl try doing this....also makes the interior nice and warm to start with!

True, but it would require someone to get in the car sopping wet on several occasions in relatively quick succession to get enough water in it to cause frost/ice on the inside of the screen on an icy morning.

Without exception, in 30+ years of car ownership the only times I've had this happen is when there has been a substantial water leak into the passenger cabin.

Another option is for the Service Manager to give you his home phone number so you can invite him round to see the problem at your house on the next frosty morning. You could also offer him a nice warm cuppa when he arrives ;)

I'd maybe suggest that water is coming through the pollen filter, caused by a blocked drain.

Even though it's a new car, being a Pug it might well have been sitting waiting to be bought for a wee while gathering leaves. That or it might be a manufacturing fault that's blocked the water drain.

I must admit I am a touch sceptical about the seats etc. If it is a "known problem" that needs rectification by using the A/C as a dehumidifier surely to prevent customer complaints it would be handled in the new car handover????

It actually sounds like it could be plausible. But then again, it could just as easily be one of those situations where a salesman bull****s the "unknowing customer" to the delight of his listening colleagues.....

Get the carpets up or folded back. If its damp anywhere at all, get rid quick. You could also either ring Peugeot UK for general advice, or speak to another dealer?

Which model was it again ? The Peugeot Igloo ? Teehee
