Insurance is a JOKE

That time of the year again:( Insurance renewal for the S63 AMG Coupe. Cos I'm old I have been with Saga for a couple of years & they have been the cheapest as I always check the comparison sites. Anyway, I got the renewal letter in last week. "Last year you paid £283.08, this year it's to be £966.99" As its not due till the second week in August I tossed the letter aside. Couple of day's ago I received an email from MoneySupermarket saying that as I had used their site last year, here are the latest quotes for this year.
Opened it up, cheapest was Saga for £264.42. Next cheapest was for around £650 going all the way up to over £7000. Mmm, funny that, left it till yesterday then checked again, refreshed the costs & they were still the same so went into the site to pay it. Saga offers to freeze the premiums for 3 years if you want, but with a slight increase but you get some extra benefits thrown in. For 3 years it was £337.09/year.. Not too bad, so signed up for that & paid. Not sure if I will keep the car for 3 years, but costs are capped if I do.
Documents were emailed but when I opened them they were showing my previous reg number. (I changed the plates a couple of months ago). Also in the docs was the quote for £966.99. Thought they are going to notice this so phoned to change reg number. Guy I got was fine after I explained the story, cancelled out the £966.99 quote. Changed the reg number & resent documents. So its £337.09:banana::)

It's all down to your postcode. Sorry to say but short of moving, you'll have to suck it up if you want a high performance car.

Have you got a quote from brokers such as A Plan and Adrian Flux? One of those may be able to make it less painful.

To make things hurt even more, I've just used Compare the Market to get a quote for a 2018 E63S valued at £54500.
The premium is £588 and I'm past retirement age. Adding 10 years to the quote made no difference either.
This is a Bournemouth postcode and it is making the difference between my quote and yours.
My quote doubled moving form Wales...hopefully get to drive my E430 again!

Just picked up a diesel estate, I thought my VW van insurance was expensive at £400.. C250d is nearly £700!

Looking to change my Range Rover Sport for a full size one. Two that I am interested in is P525 V8 (525bhp) petrol & P400e (404bhp) plug in leccy thing. Both 2021 & both approx same value
Insurance on P525 is coming in at £829:(
Insurance on P400e is coming in at £1122:mad:
Considering I have just renewed my insurance on the S63 AMG Coupe £337.09.

Any of you chaps got one of these, real world advice would be appreciated. (realise this is not a Rangy forum but when you ask questions there, you are met with a deafening silence, not like on here

All you can do is shop around. Range Rovers are relatively expensive to insure and those quotes don’t seem too bad to me for Range Rovers.

Got my renewal in today from my current insurer Darwin, which expires 5th Sept..
Last years premium £283 96
This year to renew £344 38
I make that close to a 20% increase. No chance!

Compare the Market renewal with same excess and cover with 1st Central
£255 98
I'll only find out what they are like should I unfortunately need to make a claim. Online reviews vary widely.

You'll need a full suite of immobilisers and trackers to secure the car but your quotes look great compared to other folks

Got my Hastings multi-car renewal through for my S204 and Sue's Kia (postcode PR2)

Pleasantly surprised that it has actually gone DOWN from £567.21 to £565.99! Did the normal round of comparison and arrived at £3 more expensive insuring them separately

My 83 year ole Mum had a renewal from Hastings Direct. £1,155 (last year’s premium was £580)

I did the 3 main comparison sites. RAC came good (via Confused.com) with £495 like for like cover. Start date 14th October.

I phoned mum with the results, she was made up but pointed out that her existing policy expires on 16th October. I changed the start date to 17th and the RAC quote jumped up by £24 to £519

Still a great saving but why the hell does changing the start date on a quote alter the premium??? 🤷‍♂️

I had something similar. I got my quote 32 days before it was due to expire, so I entered the date 2 days before it was due so as to get within the 30 days they asked for.
When I came to pay a week later I changed it to the correct date and the quote increased by £30+.
Changing back two days got me the the first reduced quote.
Why, I have no idea, but I renewed 2 days early for a £30 reduction in premium.

but I renewed 2 days early for a £30 reduction in premium.
I thought about opting for the earlier start date to save mum the £24 but wasn’t sure how serious of the legal side regarding overlapping policies (Hastings/RAC).

Yes mum could have cancelled her existing policy 2 days early but thought of the hassle of her phoning up and doing so.

Anyhow, she still saved a chuck of money. I just thought it was odd.

More insurance nonsense.

Renewal due 19th October and paid £379.46 to SAGA last year including a change from the Saab 9-5 to the CLK back in May. Circumstances, drivers etc have not changed at all.

Renewal from SAGA £577.73

Quotes from all the usual suspects (LV, Admiral, Direct Line etc) all in the £600+ area.

Quote from Aviva £394

Tried Money Saving Expert. Quote from Aviva Zero £277 with £0 excesses.

Makes no sense whatsoever.

Got my renewal through from Aviva Zero.

Last 12 months £286.62

Renewal £228.59

I'd say that's a result.

I don't think there are any reasons why you can't have more than one policy running at the same time. What you can't do is claim on more than one for an incident.

A very quick google indicated that it wasn’t ideal 🤷‍♂️
Not ideal because it means paying for two policies when you can only claim on one. But it’s better than leaving a gap between policies and not having cover for a while.

Good to hear that premiums are holding or falling.
