Insurance woes

I finally called up my Insurance brokers to declare my rear C43 AMG bumper.

(Last year I called them up to decare the front which they told me was fine, if I crash it I will only get a standard facelift one replaced, and no extra charge to the policy).

This time however they have cancelled the Policy telling me that they dont insure modified cars and that the front bumper was done as a 'goodwill' gesture'.

So, ive had my brokers shop around and the best he could find is £900 a year with my 1 years NCB :( :( - the worse thing is, I will lose my 10months extra NCB which is 2 months off 2 years NCB! - can they do this???

£900 a year is terrible IMO for a 9 year old car, 28 year old    IMO :(

I had a look on some of the other sites and all come back around £1200 for a quote.

If I had crashed and not bothered to tell the insurance company, I doubt they would have even noticed! My old W202 had a facelift 'kit' & 17" AMGs and the assessor never noticed.

NOT HAPPY AT ALL :(

I was thinking that, what if I was rear ended though? could that effect a future claim?

yes dont lie to them

or if you do lie to them dont admit it here!

for the sake of 10 months NCD id say ive taken it off

wether they would even notice a different rear bumper is improbable

although messing with an insurance company is not a good thing to do

personally id have changed the lot and not told them

i only tell them if i change the wheels to non merc ones

when i put my 18"'s on gfp2 i told them, but when i took off the 15" merc alloys off of gfp3 and put on the 17" amg alloys from gfp2 i did not tell them as they would never know and if they ever mentioned it id say its a merc with merc alloys and it was like that when i bought it so how was i to know

You see, this is the problem I was being honest telling them and look where its got me :(

agree with this

the worst that they can legitimately do is not to pay out for another AMG front bumper

anyhow, they should not be able to change their mind mid way through an insurance policy like that .. tell them you will complain to the insurance ombudsman

tell them you will remove it for the rest of the policy

There has been a material change to the car, and if the policy doesn't allow modifications then they do have a right to terminate.
I'm surprised over just a bumper, but they are obviously quite strict about het no mods clause.

KHz
Did they give any notice period of termination or is it instant.?

Even if its a modification to the car?

I have had to agree to a new policy with another company (although I do have a 14day cancelling period)

So you think their assessor wouldn't notice 17" rims on a car that didn't have them as standard. I bet they would.

Trouble is, there are so many variables that affect premiums thats is difficult to comment whether a price is good or not without know all the details.
Things like address, garaging, previous convictions and type, previous number of claims/accidents etc...all have a bearing.
Taking a mid-path, I would say £900 for a 28 year old with a fully comprehensive policy driving a C240 seems about right.
I am 59, drive a C200K and pay a smidgen over £400. I have a squeaky clean license and live in a low risk area.

His car is a C240 with C43 bumpers.

Your £400 doesn't seem particularly cheap. I pay less for mine and am younger and use if for business as well as pleasure. Mind you my first year was £1600.. :o

Its not a C43 though :D

Yeah I guess so, only having 1 year NCB after the crash is a killer, losing another 10months is a pee take though :(

I have never had any points (touch wood) :)

None of the mods on my previous car were noticed. 17" AMG styling IIs, AMG styling package and C43 exhaust.

All the bloke said was that he thought was a nice example and a shame to have to write it off!

I would bet a pound to pinch of canine do-do that if you had run someone down and their was claim against your policy running into the hundreds of thousands of pounds, and they wanted a get out clause, they would have spotted them then. Depends on the size of claim.

This was my very point.

Its difficult to compare without knowing ALL the salient facts.
My policy is VERY comprehensive and my excess is very low with many add-ons like free recovery/homestart/breakdown built in. Also covered for business/pleasure and abroad.
