Hi all,

It seems my iPod is no longer charging when plugged in to the integration kit in the car. It's a W169 with Audio 20 and iPod kit. I have tested with two different iPods, both work fine for audio and control, and display the Mercedes logo when connected, but neither receive power from the car, so after seven hours or so stop playing. Both iPods charge fine when plugged in to a computer or mains USB charger.

Is this something easy to fix like a fuse, or will it most likely require the dash to be disassembled to fix?

Thanks in advance,

Andy.

100% sure the older iPod used to charge, the new one never has but that could well be down to what you've just linked.

Now, given the old iPod (2nd gen nano, model MA005FB) still charges fine outside of the car, I'm still a little suspicious that the car is no longer providing power down the cable.

Cheers,

Andy.

You could try checking the connection to the back of the headunit is in properly but as audio and control work fine it should be okay. How to remove the headunit: Removing/Installing COMAND & Audio on A & B Class

Might want to PM Alife or Richard to see if they have come across this problem before.

Its most likely that NPUK's answered the problem.

iPods used to charge at 12V. 5V charging was then introduced and then iPods charged with both. Then Apple suddenly stopped 12V charging working when the iPhone was introduced (or was it the 3G). The new charging lead creates a 5V feed for 5V ipods.

Thanks npuk and Richard. I will order one of the converter widgets from Comand Online, as it looks like I will need one anyway. If the iPod then still fails to charge, it looks like I will be enlisting the services of Alfie or Richard to have a proper look at what has broken - while I'm comfortable with electronics and fibre optics, I'm not comfortable disassembling dash panels! :o

Thanks to all who responded, adding one of these now means the iPod is powered by (but does not charge from) the car:

Comand Online Ltd :: Mercedes iPod solutions :: Genuine Mercedes iPod charging adapter

Looks like there was something wrong with the old iPod, and the new one does use a different voltage. At least the new one says 'charging is not supported with this accessory' on the screen.

Andy.
