Irish Plates

Hi all,

Hope you are all well. Thought I would pick your brains. I have a personal plate on my C Class, its a UK plate. However, my other half has seen an Irish plate she would like to put on her A Class. Being an Irish plate - its relatively inexpensive. The A Class is on an 06 Plate. The plate she wants is Belfast EZ ending plate.

I bought my plate from Reg Transfers back in the day, and recieved good service. However, the plate she has seen is advertised with SpeedyReg.co.uk, who seem to be based in Ireland according to the paper advertisment. Anyone had any dealings with these people? They seem to be a lot cheaper than RegTransfers for roughly the same plate....

Are there any special conditions, rules & regs governing transfer of Irish Plates over to UK cars that I need to be aware of - that might be different to what I have experienced previously with UK reg transfers?

I am aware of the £80 transfer fee etc.

Anyway, many thanks in advance for any help and advice anyone might be able to offer on this. :bannana:

See if the DVLA has that plate. These firms often advertise plates they don't actually have! The plate I have on my BMW convertible was advertised by a UK firm and when I checked the DVLA site, behold there it was and £200 cheaper! On second thoughts is there an equivalent to the DVLA in Belfast? Is so try them.

I have used Speedyreg on two occasions for my GNZ plates on two of my cars, very quick, no problems and very easy to get through to on the phone if needed. :)

It is the DVLNI in N.Ireland (website www.dvlni.gov.uk) Any registrations they sell are sold through auction. They do not offer the same service as Swansea. Outside of the auction (conducted by a private company-Wilsons) if you see any NI registrations for sale, they will have come off a car already registered. You should check if there is a £80 fee for transferring the reg out of NI plus another £80 fee for transfer into England. I know that some years ago I was transferring a reg from England and was going to be charged £160
(I ended up registering the car to an address in England, waiting a year and then taxing car here-thus avoiding the extra £80)

All I paid was just the one DOT fee....so plate price plus £80 :)

These are not irish plates they are uk plates you can use these but you cant buy irish plates

That is correct, I believe that they will be refering to Northern Ireland registration marks (originally issued by DVLNI) which can be assigned and transfered to Mainland cars, e.g. MBZ 1234 etc. Irish plates from ROI cannot be transferred to UK cars.
