hi

I want to change the diff oil in my newly-aquired W124 E300D estate (1994).

i have some of this oil left over from when i owned the pajero:

Carlube Motor Oil - EP80w90 Hypoid Gear Oil

does anyone know if this is OK for the diff on a W124?

its the right spec (80w90) but i was unsure about the "hypoid gear" part....

thanks

Derek

Extreme Pressure 80/90 is correct as it protects the Hypoid gears better.

As long as you don't have ASD option it's ok

thanks. ASD is not needed on a 300D :D

I was on a night out in Dunfermline last December and ASD would have been a bonus on any car that day. My shoes couldn't get any traction in all that snow!!

You still need to fill an ASD diff with Gear Oil... And im pretty sure 80/90 is fine for that too.

EDIT: You should use 75w LSD diff oil really for an ASD diff.
