It couldn't possibly be worse... :-( ... ECU!

An ECU from another car would not even start it. It needs speciic coding for that vehicle and thet vehicle only:eek:

So, if you sourced a second hand unit could that be dialed in or will only a BNIB one work?

Why does the spacer part have an M271 part number ? Because they have the same problem.

When you ASSUME you make an .......... (you know the rest).

I see your point Miro, but Ollie once told me that the oil issue is a 111 one.

Even if it were an oil issue, I'm sure the dealer would have discovered that by now.

The 271 engine DOES NOT have the same problem. The part number is a 271****** etc but the cam solenoids are a different design. The 271 has two also.

Ok Looking like it is definately ECU and dealer not trying to make a quick buck, they have said that if it is not the ECU they won't charge me a penny, I'll get that in writing.

Lets see what MB customer services do by way of contribution and if all else fails we'll see what Warranty Direct say (I'm sure it's covered) Will still cost me a bob or two as Parts are only covered 70% and labour £40hr:rolleyes::confused:
