It's on Piston Heads

I thought I read a previous post whereby the car had a buyer already? Or am I getting confused here.......

Hi

yes i have offers of just shy of £25k and there abouts.

But im not in a position to have to accept them!

You could add.. a Bentley turbo red label to the list too.. the list could go on.. but these cars are not iconic.. nor are they able to appreciate over time.. they might, but unlikely.

the w124 cabrios might not either, however, the sportline 320's will, and already are.

This is why so many clks are selling for so little already.

Great little cars, but nothing to last into the next decade.

etc etc.

Why dont you all help me out and think positively for me!

not too much for me to ask is it? lol

It wasn't intended as a negative comment, sorry, just my idle curiosity of what £35k buys..........not a position I'll ever be in.

I agree that those cars aren't icon status and are likely to depreciate over time. But is your £35k car really going to make the next owner money within 10 years? Impossible to be certain I suppose.

Here's some more classic cars for ~£35k, that are icons IMHO. I only post these as maybe these are your competition for potential buyers:

1978 Rolls Royce Corniche

1970 MB SL Pagoda

1968 MGA

1968 Jaguar E-Type
1974 Jenson Interceptor
1993 Aston Martin Virage Volante
1995 Ferrari 355

The government will give you two grand for it if you want to get rid of it. you can buy one of those crappy plastic CLK's like me then ......

Only messing best of luck with the sale.

Boss,

Where do you get the production figures from?

A friend bought an N reg E320 Cab Sportline a few months ago & we looked at about 8 from the 15 or so that were available at that time. Seems unlikely just under 20% of the RHD production figure would be available at any one time, especially around January.

wemorgan-that pagonda is an excellent find.

Mr Boss, your car is lovely but it has been made clear to you that for £35k you will get a "more iconic classic car" a "better modern car". From £35k I can't really see how much more appreciation the car can do. Ironsides lower milliage cab is/was £40k....

You've also got to remember you are selling privately, Charles Ironside is a trader and most people after a really iconic car go to specialised traders, classy auctions (not BCA) but Bonhams etc and asking someone to part with £35k to someone on Pistonheads for a car thats extremely keenly priced just will not happen. Charles Ironside might pull off pricing like that, but you won't. I'd aim at least £5k lower, or £10k lower as you've had offers of £25k.

Personally, its a lovely example and I really think you should keep it, if it means that much to you the car then you are not really ready to part company with it, and your high pricing suggests to me that you actually still want the car.

The value is what someone will pay, what ever I or anyone thinks is accademic I guess. Its a nice car sure, At the price you are asking I'm not sure how long you would have to keep it to really appeciate any more?. It also seems sad as using it is surely going to de value it.

What makes me smile is you want 35K for the one of a kind car yet publish 3 pictures as it 'costs' to add more :)

I've sold a few cars on piston heads and added far more pictures as a private sale for free, unless they have changed this very recently.

Good luck with the sale,

There's nothing wrong with speculating on a price, and I wish you luck, although I can't see the third owner paying this amount. I do hope so though, as it would set a happy trend for the model.

Production figures have always been a bit inconclusive, but like Neil, I'd be interested in your source, DV? I'd be particularly interested to know how many of the 1300 or so cabs around you have seen to qualify these statements in your ad:

"You will see various examples of this car available in the UK. However, not a single car will come close to this example...
This is the finest W124 series convertible in England, Scotland, Ireland or Wales and is totally original from day one! "

It can't be substantiated, and begs to be challenged, so I think it undermines the rest of your ad, which is meant constructively.

Out of interest, has the boot in yours been modified to accommodate storage of the wind deflector?

Let us know when you put it up to £40 k, and I'll think about selling mine!!

How much will one be able to buy a new E class coupe for I wonder?

I used to look after a E36 AMG convertible in silver with black leather and it was (and still is) a very very clean car.

It has around 35,000 miles on it now. He had it valued at £25k by an expert.

I think you might struggle to get your asking price.

blackC55, i will struggle, but some one out there should appreciate and pay for what is a premium product.

tough climate, but i have given it 12-24 months to market it out!
