I've just put a deposit down on an SL500

Ride height is not always exact on both sides.

Was the fuel tank full and somone sitting in the car? This can make all the difference.

True, but you also said this:

The shock absorber has nothing to do with the ride height. Only the spring is on your car (if it has no self leveling)

Replace in pairs too. This is important.

And the fact is that the shock absorber can have something to do with the ride height, that's all i was trying to point out.

Absolutely agree to replace in pairs though.

I don't agree actually.

Please explain.

I've had this problem with oleo-pneumatic shocks - the seperation between them failed and as a result the shock was more or less seized. When i took both shocks off the car i could move one with some difficulty (as expected) but the other one i could not move at all with my full weight (and i weigh 14 stone!). The "gas" chamber was full of oil.

Basically the shock had stiffened, enough that it more or less determined the ride height of the car on that corner.

On a very worn shock absorber then yes I agree but not on a perfectly good one.

Well, second hand car, you never know how bad the shock could be eh?
Mind you it's not too hard to take it out and have a play :)

A worn shock is easy to spot. Its noisey to start with and gives horrendus handling.

I havnt checked the data card but it says it when I look it up on some parts sites like ECP and others.

Spike I bought my SL500 from alex creasy last year - decent chap I found.

Yes, he's a nice chap. I recommend him also. I like his finding fee idea for cars, very reasonable.

Did you take a look at the other cars in that underground car park
