Jaguar builds a Vectra/Passat thingy

From the posts on here so far, looks like it is going to be a marmite car. Not exactly what Jaguar needed IMHO.

I thought the interior looked familiar

Having now seen the feature on this car in Top Gear mag., I quite like it.

Well having now seen more pics in Autoexpress this morning - I am inclining towards liking it...I really think its a car one has to judge by seeing in the flesh ...I really hope it sells well - but only car which is below max emissions is the 2.7 diesel - so not much good for those living in London who want petrol....

Makes the Emissions bands seem more like a 'WEALTH' tax. Easy pickings, anyway thats another topic

It looks like a volvo from the front!!

That was my first thought too!

There must be some car design event horizon where everything converges to a sort of BMW/Volvo chimaera and thereafter there is no escape. Audi and Saab are resisting for now.

mmmm, mixed responses, and having seen more pics I'm sure it will find plenty of homes...but will people desire them? I'm judging it against the concept - a missed opportunity IMO

Ooh, looks much better in Gucci's photo :-)

The estate looks nice to me.The front is a bit disappointing but there is certainly some very nice detailing, certainly superior to some of the clumsy styling in the new C-class and BMW 3-series.

I think the new XF is quite nice myself. more to the point, I'm glad to see someone else getting rid of the gearstick. in a modern automatic, what do you need it for? the BMW 7 series stuck it on a stalk which was good. jag are sticking it on a little knob. personally I'd probably do it with buttons but hey.

and here's another thing.. why do modern auto's, with electro-hydraulic parking brakes, why do they have a P setting on the gearbox. why not leave it at RND and put the park setting into the parking brake?

dave

P is a solid mechanical lock, leaving the box in gear is a risky business. What if the gear engaged, the car would drive away?

Personally I would rather have P then an electric parking brake.

what I mean is, why not have the pin in P slotted into the gearbox when you put the EH parking brake on. why have a seperate gearbox position for it? when do you use P, but not want the parking brake?

Having the gearbox seelct P if the parking brake is used isn't a good idea. The parking brake also serves as an emergency brake, imagine engaging Park at 50mph..

lol! :D

I give you the outgoing Opel/Vauxhall Vectra interior for comparison....

I'd need to see it to decide but, from the pic, its a huge step up on the quasi retro horror shape thats been a Jaguar of late.

At least they got the wheel on the right side in bigx photos

I was hoping the new S-Type - or XF as it will be called - would be as good as the concepts. Once again, they've looked to old Vauxhalls for dashboard designs.."there maybe trouble ahead..."

They've been building things not as good as a Passat for years now...Better than a Vectra granted...
