Jap Import with a Difference.

I wouldn't class that as a good one - average at best as it's high mileage and doesn't have a FSH. R129s, like R107s get very cheap when they're not up to standard.

"Offered with extensive history and MoT certificates in support of the indicated 95,000 miles"
I didn't look at the car but it reads okay. The plate probably is worth four figures. Sold for £5650 + buyers fee.

I wouldn't call 5,600 miles a year high...

To me it looks average - the mileage is high as regardless of age certain things will need replacing at around 100k miles - the leather doesn't wear well either and a new interior is very expensive. If that's the sort of car you're after then it's a bargain - but a concours '89 R129 500SL will set you back £11 - 12k. A cheap R129 is rarely a cheap R129!.

Just did a quick search on Autotrader and found this 1996 facelift SL500 with some AMG bits for £9500. Looks the business.

Looks nice and could be a bargain. Only downside is the 100k+ mileage, 5 previous owners, non MB service history and non-standard AMG kit that has been added.

Edit:

This is sensibly priced.

I am impressed by the MOT expiring in October 2007, now call me old fashioned, but are MOTS valid for a year (plus a few odd days if due) and check out the rude reply to a question, stupid question I know, but no need for that answer!!!

The more I look at the SL500 with the AMG kit the more I like it. The AMG kit could be a factory fitted option and the service history is most likely MB followed by specialist which is not a problem. Even if the mileage is 100,000 (How do you know as it's not stated? Did you ring him?) I still think it's a bargain at £9500. He may even take an offer?
If it was nearer to me I'd be tempted to have a look.:(

Sorry Timmy for hijacking this thread ....Point is the black left hooker is probably not worth buying...

I spoke to the owner. I'm sure he'd take £9k for it but it's not the sort of car I'd buy or recommend someone else buy for the reasons mentioned.
