Ive' left my new car (new to me anyway) at the Indy in Bristol.
Clonk from Front (ARB links and bushes)
Heater plugs (hope they all come out)
Oil and filter and check levels (that should be easy)

I hope they don't find any thing else too drastic?
I don't want this car to turn into a money pit.
Fingers crossed all will be OK:)

all the best, let us know how it gets on

If its the Indy in Fishponds, I have used him for the last 5 years no problems, let us know though.

Gary,
I hope all went well, I have used Parkway for a number of years and found their service to be excellent. Their loan cars may leave a bit to be desired:D :D but at least its wheels to get you about, old C classes.

Got the car back, all's well.
The total bill £385.
ARB links and bushes
All heater plugs and fault codes (they all came out)
Oil flushed-oil and filter changed
All levels checked, they even drained the washer reservoir and refilled with their stuff.
Refitted sill-trim with lots of plastic clips under car.
Road tested-he said it drove well.
On the way home I suddenly realised there was no clonking or banging from the front.
What a car?(WOW)
I would go as far as saying that this is better than the newer BMW 530d which I sold to release funds (house move)

This Merc was half the price but I think it's 20% better than the BMW?
It's quite strange how alike these cars are, soft close tailgate, orange light in base of rear view mirror, webasto diesel pre-heater, common rail six cylinder, parameter/servo-tronic steering, two washer reservoirs.
I could go on and on but I know which badge I prefer.

Come on Gary, dont be too harsh on bm.Personally I think mercedes wins hands down on comfort, and driving position. However in my humble opinion, on road holding, reliability, and dare I say rust...they loose to bmw...However, I am only making this assumption on the lower desirability models, and the ones I have driven, and not the silly priced cars.... :)

Let's not start another BMW/Mercedes argument. Gary's compared two individual cars and says how pleased he is with his latest acquisition.

He found the right car for him at the right price and it's just magic that spending only £385 gets it where Gary wants it. And to think he came close to spending the same money on what might have been a dodgy import.

Thanks Pete, I,m very glad this forum warned me away from the first ???? car and you're right, only £380 to get get this one in tip-top condition amazes me.
I think I was just lucky. I may buy a lottery ticket while I'm on a winning streak?
Just the dash to sort out but that can wait.

Just arrived in Kingsbridge after leaving home in Bristol. Thats the first time I've used the car since buying it on Sunday.
Car went great, 39 MPG (air con on) No problems,
Life is good.

Frosty this morning, how can I tell if the auxillary heater is working, is there an exhaust pipe anywhere?

Can you not just wait till morning so the air and the engine are cold, and switch the aux heater on. If it gets warm it works?

Sorry if that's a daft suggestion!!

How do I do this (turn it on) Must the car be started/running.
The only thing that made me aware that I have axu heating is the switch next to the cigar lighter, which is to turn it off (I belive)

The purpose of the auxilliary heater is to put heat into the car when the engine is cold. It overcomes the problem of diesels taking a long time to warm up.

The system is different in the W211 that I have so I might be on dodgy ground but I think in your car it also warms the cooling circuit, again speeding up engine warming. Obviously, it uses fuel which is why you have an override switch.

IIRC aux heaters usually work on some kind of timer, to start heating air before the engine is started - well probably before you're out of bed on a cold morning!! No sign of a means of programming.

Is the switch, heater or any documentation branded?

Wish you'd have told me! I am after a 530d Sport at the moment but they are seriously scarce for the amount I am prepared to pay.

[Awaits backlash from MB community telling me I sould have a Merc]

In my hand book it says that the auxillary heat will come on (when engine is running) to aid cabin and engine warming if the outside temp is below 6C.
It was frosty this morning when I started the car so I looked under neath and tried to locate the exhaust pipe for this aux unit to see if hot gasses were coming out (thats what/how I checked my BMW was working)
Problem was, I couldn't find the exhaust outlet because I didn't know where to look?

Are you sure that's not just the heater booster? That uses the a/c pump to add extra heat to the cabin heating system.

I don't think may UK MB's have the auxiliary heater? If the car does have one, then surely the point of them is to heat the car/engine up *before* you get into it in the morning?

We've had the conversation about auxiliary heaters on the forum before.

Regardless of what you call them, in this country the purpose is to get heat in the car quickly after start up. In some other markets, there is also a pre-heater option which can be started by timer and/or remote control to warm the cooling circuit before the car is started.

The system (heater booster) in the W211 is electrically powered. The handbook for the W210 should say whether it is diesel powered or whatever.

You should have a merc!!!!!!!

Actually I used to drive a 530d, and it was great.
