I was originally after a CLK but was put off by the stories of rust! To be honest I think the 3 pointed star has a more upmarket image than BMW but there isn't really a Merc that fits the bill for me quite as much as a 530d sport. And I used to have a 520 touring which I absolutely loved but which was really underpowered!!

Was planning to buy in May to meet my current financial commitments but have just seen the Tesco loan with 2 months payment holiday so might push it forward a bit..

Having just been dumped I think I deserve it!!!

Thanks Pete, I,m very glad this forum warned me away from the first ???? car and you're right, only £380 to get get this one in tip-top condition amazes me.
I think I was just lucky. I may buy a lottery ticket while I'm on a winning streak?

I think you've got yourself a crackin car...keep hold of it,seems like its been well looked after and that is worth an awful lot. There is nothing more satisfying than buying a presige car at good money and in tip top condition.

Just returned from my trip to Devon with my new car and all went well.
The new tyres (budget "Avent"???) the the previous owner fitted are crap. Even though the steering and suspension is now tight, the tyres made the car feel very "woolly" and not at all precise to steer at speed.
I'll either get some 17 inch rims and quality tyres when my budget allows or get new Michelin's (my favourites) in a few weeks.
There is a noise, like a single noisy tappet whilst reving the engine at stand still, it's not consistent but all over the place (I have heard this on other 320cdi)
I've had a quick search and found reference to the "purge control valve" Does my car have one of these?

No.

The tapping noise is not uncommon and is due to the rate of rise of cylinder temperature. Try some injector cleaner.

Wish you'd have told me! I am after a 530d Sport at the moment but they are seriously scarce for the amount I am prepared to pay.

530d sport would still be my choice. 3 litre bmw engine is better than the 3.2 mercedes one.
