Very sad to say that my nice new C63 estate which I collected on November 23rd is now languishing at MB Milton Keynes waiting to have its gearbox taken out :(

I'd noticed over the last couple of days some small oil patches on the driveway and after a drive today had to pull over to inspect the underside of the car as there seemed to be an awful lot of smoke emanating from the underneath. Checked the oil cap and there seemed to be nothing untoward so headed off to the dealer to see what they made of it.

I have to say they were very helpful and put the car straight up on one of their ramps for a look whilst I had a coffee and did a bit of work in their very pleasant customer lounge. About 15 minutes later back came the service manager with a long face and said words to the effect of " Major oil leak, failed seal we suspect but need to have the gearbox out to get at it, you can't drive it as it is, be the end of the week before it's done as it's a time intensive job"

To say I'm disappointed would be an understatement. Can't fault the dealership in question but am very disappointed that something requiring what to my (admittedly untrained) ears sounds like fairly major surgery at just over two weeks old has taken an awful lot of the shine off owning this rather special new car.

:mad::(

This stuff happens. It's unfortunate, but it happens. Don't let it take the shine off your nice new C63 - most problems rear their head within the first 3 months of ownership.

As long as MB sort it quickly and to your satisfaction, then you'll soon have it back and can enjoy it again.

Wasn't there a similar thread a while back that ending up in a torched car after a few repair attempts ?

Not wanting to alarm you ...

they have caught it. better than being let down.

That rings a bell with me too, 2 or 3 attempts at repairing leak then car caught fire.

Perfect timing if ya think about it?

It'll be off the road when the snow comes and you'll be sliding about in their loan car while the white stuff is on the deck.

;)

Yes, that's the spirit. Every oil leak has a silver lining.

Sorry to hear the bad news. It can ruin the excitement of getting a new car.

I had the same thing happen to my C250. Within a 1000 miles there was a whining sound from the gearbox. Conclusion: new gearbox required!

Friday afternoon cars, perhaps?

On a brighter note, in a year's time you will look back at this disappointment and quietly simile; 'That's life'.

Cheers :)

He may even get it back before Christmas so it can set fire on Christmas day, which would then be perfect for roasting chestnuts.

Disappointed?......understatement?......gear box out after only two weeks?

I would be threatening legal violence and reserving rejection of the car in the event of anything other than a first time perfect fix......how much did the car cost?

u have every right to refuse the car.. u r not satisfied, u will at worst loose one months finance payment (if on finance)

think about it.. its a new year. u can re-order or ask for a discount to compensate for lost faith

car mechanics is one thing.. but ching ching is another.. dont loose sight that they do owe u financially aswell as your purchase price was based on faith in the brand and marque.. and knowing that the gearbox bolt is not as per factory will linger in the back of your mind for time.

good luck

It's a good job you didn't have my Volvo, then.
At two weeks it had completely already broken down twice, then by six weeks it had had new gearbox, steering rack, electric window lifters x2, electric heated mirrors x 2.
It just carried on like that with such things as drivers door, exhaust, more windows and mirrors, rear axle out of alignment, wheel bearing... until it went at under 1.5 years old.

Should have bought a C220CDi estate then. Rumour is it's the bestest car that ever ever was. Ever. ;)

To be honest if I was a manufacturer and someone tried this I would take my ball home and refuse to play.

I'm sure Mercedes will happily leave the OP with his 'factory' gearbox if he is worried about it being fixed. It will be broken of course.

Alternatively they can fix it and OP will have a car that works.
