CLK 230K
Hi guys,
I am new on here; but am embarking on a new project with my most recent purchase.
99 V - CLK 230K AVANTGARDE (FACELIFT) IN Manual.
It has 80k on the clock with full MBSH.

The colour is black on the logbook, but it is actually a blue/grey/green; it would be appreciated if someone could tell me the actual colour name.

Currently there are stonechips on the bonnet and front bumper and various scratches & dents across the car so I am due to get a full respray. There is some rust which i am keen to chase up MB Mobilo life about. People who have dealt with them before, it would be helpful if you could let me know the process and your thoughts on the things i have listed below.

The changes i plan to make:
18" Mono Block AMG II's
Lower 40mm at the max
Put my Alpine head unit in
HID Headlamps
Crystal Clear Headlamps

Problems i have:
On the center console where the heating controls are, at night the drivers side controls seem to be lit up, there is no light on the passengers side.
There is a loud clunk/click when the drivers door opens, it looks like a clip which may need fastening.
The passenger mirror has come out of place and seems difficult to get it back in, although the electrics are still working, the cover is not on fully.
The leather on the gearknob is peeling, i plan to purchase a new one.

Will be uploading pics soon, but any help people have for the above problems will be well appreciated. I am in NW London if you guys are able to recommend anywhere.

The heater control bulb must have blown, I had the same in my CLK.
Pull the control knob off, you will see a white plastic tab covering the bulb.
Move it to the side and you will see the bulb, you need to use some plastic tubing like what you get in a fish tank air filter.
Put this over the bulb and pull, this should remove the bulb, pop into Halfords with the bulb and it should cost about £2.
Reverse the process and you are done.

Alex.

Thanks Alex.
Any other suggestions for changes to be made to the car?
I was really looking for a CLK with the chrome trim on the windows, but on ebay there is chrome strip tape for sale...
Not sure if this will give the same effect.
Any ideas?

Your car is likely to be Emerald Black, code 189. If you check the sticker on the b-pillar on the driver's side this should have the code on it. If that sticker isn't there then it's on a plate that's riveted to the slam-panel where the bonnet clicks down in front of the engine bay.

They might mess you about re the rust, especially if you have just bought the car. They like to see at least six months ownership, or else the tend to think you are a dealer trying to get the bodywork done on the cheap. So if I were you, id hang on for a little while on that one.

One of the most important things you should also do is fit the sprintbooster !!!! It will change your life !!!!

I'm sure they won't be thinking that.
I'm only 19.
I spoke to MB in Colindale..my nearest dealer and they said i could come Monday - Friday so they could assess it.
They don't do it in house and it has to be sent away.
Do you know if they provide a courtesy car??

Whilst your there ask about the noise from your drivers door,If the check strap is failing it could break the window channel and put a nice dent in your door skin if it broke completely. It the first thing I was told about when I bought mine.

Speaking from a great deal of experience on this issue and having dealt with MB twice in the past year on this, if your car is beyond a certain age, (and mine is a 1999 with FMBSH with 58,000) they look for every reason under the sun as to why it shouldn't be done. I had mine done on both occasions but it was hard work to get them to agree to do it.

Good luck !

the colour may be green/black metalic get the colour code off the plate under the bonnet somewhere and ask your local mb dealer.....good luck with the project regards jon:)
