Just test drove a CLS63.....Oh my GOD!!!!

23 years old !!!

Get yourself a little sportscar, why are you messing around with test driving big mercedes ??

Primarily, I'd just like to point out I certainly can't afford a new C or E. They will be nearly new cars, and Dad will drive one hard bargin, considering his past in car dealings :D

EDIT: I know i shouldn't say this on a merc forum but, if you have that kind've money, does the Nissan GTR not intrigue you at all?

As for the query re:GTR....I'm not a huge fan of Japanese machinery :o

Darren

At your age though I would be looking for an SLK55 or similar, get the 4 door 'sensible' car when you need it (wife, kids, and all that follows)

Enjoy.

As this will be my daily driver, I really need a four seater. I'm suprised the amount of times I need a 4 seater! :)
But the SLK is a stunning car. There was a facelift SLK55 at Lancasters....it looked superb, and had (what appeared to be) some new design of twin spoke alloy wheels.

Out of curiosity, how much is the insurance for a 23 year old on a £50,000 6 litre 155 mph super saloon?

Darren,

Glad to see you have not been totally shot down on this thread. I for one think you should enjoy little treats such as this - I recently took a 997 GT3 round the Ascari test track in southern spain. I make no bones about the fact that it was through a connection of my fathers, that I have no sway in motorsport at all and that i am extremely privalliged to have done so. One of the benefits of having a father who owns a racing team (in MG Trophy unfortuntaly, not F1...boo).

There is a lot of sh*t in life no matter your starting point and momentls like this are to be savoured.

Hi Darren,
I wish you all the luck in the world with your quest to buy the car of your dreams.

This thread reminds me so much of an American BMW forum where a very nice, pleasant, presentable young man joined that forum, asked a few questions about a new M5. Sadly a few forum members laid into him for being spoilt, rich etc....... It was wrong, totally out of order and back fired big time and I have NO intention of posting the link.:o :o

My only advice is please, please take an advanced driving course, learn from it, apply whatever the instructor tells you, and just remember you HAVE NO NEED to prove how fast your new car will be, you know all about its performance.

This forum is very Conservative but we still have members that like to 'badge hunt' and enjoy boasting about how they out dragged a C95AMG or BMW M99 from 0 - 60 in the C180KK:rolleyes: ;) . Buy the car, enjoy it and smile at all the boy racers that want your scalp. I have encouraged my son to say to himself, "You win, I loose, well done" Just remember how stupid they look when they roar away from you and get snapped by a concealed camera:devil:

Live long and prosper

Yours sincerely
John

This has to be the worst 'I've achieved nothing but my Daddy's very rich' thread EVER!

It sure is, because mercboiuk didn't mention anything about even buying a car or his ability to pay until you harranged him over it.

It's difficult to brag if you don't say anything.

Good post John. Don't want another M5 thread

The same thought of the M5 thread ran through my mind also.

When I was 23 I wanted a Capri 2.8i special.....at the time that looked like a monster!

I think I've been snapped speeding again this weekend, completely my fault, I thought the road I was on was a 50 limit and it was a 40......

That sends me up to 9 points again and my daily drive is a diesel 9-3 Saab.

I've put a deposit on a C63T and I'd love the car, but I'm seriously wondering what I'll do with it and how long I'd actually keep my licence.

I have to have a licence, I'd be lost without it.

The last three weekends I've driven to Norfolk twice and to Wiltshire once, covered about 2000 miles in the last three weeks, been completely paranoid about speed limits/cameras and police to a point where I'm simply cruising in the inside lane on motorways and pottering around in the speed limit all the time.

In all those 2000 miles, I don't think there was anywhere I would have enjoyed a 6 litre car any more than the 1.9 turbo diesel I was driving.

I'm, currently having a re think..........

I think I've just become sensible....oh no...I just realised I sound like my father:crazy:

I was wondering the same thing, out of curiousity.. there is a lad that used to go to my school, would be 19 now and frequently see him driving a 55' plate M5.. I know for a fact his father however is a quite wealthy property developer.

I remember when I first passed my test, I wanted to insure my fathers new Volkswagen Passat 2.8 V6 4motion, after the first quote I gave up haha.. from Norwich Union it was £14000 comprehensive!!!

I have a plan...;)

Being a generous sort off fellow I wonder whether I could help you out by looking after the C63 for 3-4 years whilst your licence recovers.

Let me know if this might help in any way.

Yes I remember it, the kid died as the car chewed him up and spat him out, be carefull Darren, the cars you are looking at are powerfull, they are not toys, respect them, and im not saying that as an old fart, I had an E55 in my mid 20`s, not quite in your league, but the car will screw itself sideways more than happily, then when you have 2 tons heading sideways towards stationary traffic you realise your just a passenger and its time to go and get some advanced driver training...

How different are they from the black series? On Top Gear wasnt there a note saying not to drive in wet, or was that a joke?

Every new AMG used to come with advanced driver tuition at MIRA, which was superb. It has since switched to MB World, but is not the same as the AMG Experiences you can buy.

It's great fun, and you can learn a huge amount. I've been twice, and was able to take Mrs D along too - it was an extra £395 IIRC for a partner.

I believe now it's only available as part of the Performance Package, but if you're spending North of £50k I would suggest that you pay a little extra for the PP or get some tuition elsewhere.

Not only does it help you understand the performance envelope of the car, so many people come out of it saying they're a better driver as a result. Admittedly I probably did have a low start point!! :D

Good reminder John Re: the M5 post

I had MX5 and was on the forum, years ago and the founder of the forum who was obviously a regular poster had an accident.

Turns out it was fatel, really hits you in the stomach.

I know you think you will be sensible etc, but in that car its soo easy to be going very quick and especially with your mates.

You are young, we all were once and you do / will 'have a go' I had a Pug Gti when I was 18yrs old (at the time that was a quick car for a young lad) and the speeds I drove that were silly when I look back.

I would offer the advice of others and take some driving lessons or even the IOM course (may help your insurance also).

I wish you all the best in the car you choose but also safe driving.

I remember the M5 thing, it was big on BMW forums natuarally enough, however it was a freak occurance and the poster was very keen on driving fast.

Here the situation is altogether different, and I hope Darren enjoys his new V8 toy, and I'll be surprised if he doesn't.

I think it was on this very forum, I heard about that M5 driver....very sad.

Rest assured, I've certainly learned from past incidences, and completed an advanced driving course a couple of years ago.

The CLS was savage, and whatever I get will command HUGE respect, so I've been mentally preparing myself, trust me!

The last three weekends I've driven to Norfolk twice....

Coming up to my neck of the woods, eh Mudster? :) Which areas were you visiting?

Out of curiosity, how much is the insurance for a 23 year old on a £50,000 6 litre 155 mph super saloon?

I haven't been getting any quotes, as yet, but I'm expecting it be in the thousands. My E320's insurance cost £3,000 when I was 19, so I'm expecting a similarly large figure.

Darren

Are you jealous

Dunno about him, but I am. :D

*Makes mental note to play lottery this week*
