Key replacement

As said previously your car could have up to 6 keys programmed to it so most of us unless bought from new are in the same position

You've got more chance of winning the lottery than someone identifying your car with a blade to open the door🤣

does UK license plates go with car when it changes owner?
In my country plates go with car and thieves could have lost keys and knows the plates they find the owners home address and the car, you should be happy there are no crimes in UK :thumb:

Can you can tell what car this opens there's no reg on the blade

Thief can't start the car, that's correct, only unlock drivers door and boot then make a quick search in the car take what's worth stealing.
Still a risk if owner leaves valuble stuff in the car.
Wouldn't park at a super market or shopping mall underground garage then someone recognizes plates on car, having the blade key then decide to pay it a visit inside for a steal.
Thief could snatch your kids X-mas presents or other things, then your kids wouldn't be very happy.

It's the owners problem if he doesn't change locks, not my or your problem
You’re talking rubbish. In all seriousness no one is going to go to the trouble of entering the car with a blade (along with alarm going off…) for the sake of the contents, when they could just as easily break a window on *any* car at any time in any location. That is low level opportunist theft, a totally different sort of crime.

Organised car theft is a genuine concern for valuable, high end sports/prestige/luxury vehicles, but nobody goes to the extremes of your suggestions on the off chance of finding some Christmas presents!

You are the one dreaming up scenarios that will not happen though!

Yes, I'm paranoid!
No one believed Putin was going to attack Ukraine but it happened.

Can tell you many years ago I had a friend who's hobby specialty was to enter other people cars without permission.

This dude went to look for cars in dealerships just for fun to kill time.
Back then dealerships didn't put car keyes in safety boxes, instead keys were placed open on the window wiper anyone could snatch car key.
On purpose Dude took the keys and the remote.
He wrote down the license plate to remember which key fits the plate.
When car was sold, dude checked in open registers for new owners home address.
If car was sold nearby, after a few months he went there by night and unlocked the car took stuff worth stealing.
Once he made a misstake and got caught!
I guess this never happened at all?

YES I'M BEING PARANOID!
I will take a chill pill.

Nowadays every dealer puts their car keyes in security boxes.

Just for clarity it's not that someone steels something from inside the car as nothing is ever left in it.

The key could quite obviously just have been lost by the employee and there is nothing untoward about it. There could also be something in it andybtome spent within the TVP leaves me sceptical, rightly or wrongly yet you see the worst in society.

Knowing now that Merc can deactivate the original keys sets the mind at rest, I'll look at the possibility of fitting a Ghost or similar just for peace of mind.

Thanks for all the help

No idea why MB don't show the number of keys somewhere in the menu. Even my old 2005 S40 showed the number of keys that were programmed.

Sending you a prescription for a large G&T to wash the chill pill down!

Remember causation and correlation are not the same 🤣👌

Gin und tonic is niceeeeeeee but don't think it's good to mix chill pills with alcohol?

As chill pill can be placebos you may safely imbibe 👌🤣

In that case a sugar pill with a G & T is harmless.
Sugar level in blood keeps it even-Steven, no need to be paranoid about small things in life like someone's trying to steal your car with blade key. 👍

Which we have already established that "they" cannot. 🤣
