Key replacement

We do Mercedes Ghost at £450, in our workshop. Not sure why people think it's a good idea to have some stranger they found on the internet turn up at one's house and fit security products (never to be seen again). In the early days of Tracker there were rogue installers ... and we've had a few people contact us recently with badly installed (not working) Ghosts - so be careful everyone !!!

As above, Richard fitted the Ghost in my recently sold E63. It operated perfectly and I would recommend them for any high value car for extra security above the manufacturers alarm/immobiliser.

Richard not here too often so I'll jump in;)

He can be found just off the M3 at J4 in Lightwater Surrey.
Nice chippy across the road while you wait😁

They have stated that the blades will be provided and have been ordered. The delay is that either the keys or blades have to come from Germany. The car is booked in with a main dealer next Thursday so all being well I get the car on the Friday
Hi, I have just joined as I am looking at getting a C63 cabrio and because I lost one of my E class keys recently. Do you mind if I ask how much the main dealer charged for your replacement key ?? I have seen another thread that suggested £200-£300 but Marshalls estimate was £600 so it would be good to know the exact charge.......thanks.

Last I heard, the main dealer was charging £280 for a new key. It's certainly not reached £600 yet, but give it time:confused:

Hi, the supplying dealer ordered them from Mercedes so I'm sorry I've no clue. When I get a chance I'll look through the paper work and see if there's an invoice

Great, thanks. It was the parts dep't at Marshall Southampton that said the ball park figure was £600 so I will try a different MB dealer and get a firm quote from them. I wouldn't mind £200-£300 but at £600 I would probably just live with one key !! Could claim on car insurance as I have a zero XS policy, but even with NCB protection the annual premium will increase by 20% to 30% for both our cars (named driver on wife's) for the next 5 years so even more than £600 if I did that. Hopefully you find the invoice and let me know, cheers.

Very risky living with one key. You may not lose the one and only key, but it could get a fault, rendering it not workable, you could be in limbo then.

I've gone with 3D AUTO KEYS for a spare key for the SLK £180 all in 🙂 15th of may so will update when done

As Benz17 said I would not be risking one key. Human error, failure of device you'll be stuck. Get one ordered from another dealer. If it helps the replacements for mine were ordered through Mercedes Milton Keynes.

Thanks for that, I just spoke to Merc Milton Keynes and got an exact price from them. It may be of interest to someone else so the current price at May 2023 is £336.84 incl VAT for a new fob and skeleton key, plus £120 (incl VAT) labour to code it........so total cost incl VAT is £456.84 Also got a quote from Merc Salisbury who were about £50 cheaper for the coding so will get one as I agree it's a potential risk to live with just one key. Cheers, Paul R.

I have never heard of the keys needing coding unless this is a recent change.

I remember a neighbour with an early W211 ordered a key from Germany via the dealer and it arrived ready to go to

He just put it in the ignition switch and it worked.

The delay for me collecting the car was it had to go to Mercedes to have the keys coded, I think from a certain year Mercedes stopped or changed the process. Mine is a late 2015 E Class
