Kitchen refurb

We have gone through many dishwashers like Bosch, Siemens etc., as I didn't realise when purchasing them that most are only built to last about 6 years, so only spending £500 on one is an economy that will catch you out.
As far as I know Miele are built to last around 20 years. OK they are big money but as with cars you get what you pay for.
The list price for ours was £1200 but only payed £1000 from AO.com but you are buying the best and you won't regret it.
Don't mean to boast but ours has lights inside when the door is opened which is a great feature.
We also have a Miele washing machine which is brilliant.

We've only had one dishwasher, Bosch, 15 years old.

Having gone through a few Bosch dishwashers, I'm prepared to bet that whilst your fifteen year old one is still going, it's Bosch replacement will not.

We have gone through 2 Bosch dishwashers, 2 tumble dryers, 1 washing machine and an oven and all were unreliable and all lasted around 5 to 6 years and have learnt our lesson.
I don't think that is good enough life span which is why we now choose Miele.
We have still got a Bosch freezer which has never gone wrong and is now a staggering 15 years old.

Integrated Beko appliances - the neighbours will never know.

No, Ikea use all normal UK standard accessories.

Don't Blum make drawer runners?

My understanding from shopping around is the 'standard' height of kitchen base units from various UK retailers I have come across is 720mm, but from Ikea it is 800mm. This means that it might be difficult to match a 'standard' door from another supplier to fit an Ikea base cabinet. Of course one can probably get a supplier to get a 'made-to-measure' door to go on an Ikea cabinet, but then it would probably be cheaper to go back to Ikea to get replacement doors. But you are tied to Ikea.

...assuming it needs replacing.;)

I think it's the plinth area that's different think it's deeper doors are the same size as others ours has ikea bases and magnet doors both in base and wall units. I had to go ikea bases as they were the only ones who did a corner cupboard and boiler cupboard in the dimensions i wanted

From what I've heard/read about Beko stuff, it's all made on a Monday or a Friday with nothing in between. Ok if you get a Monday model I guess...

Indeed , our 14 year old Bosch washing machine packed up , the Bosch washing machine that replaced it is no where near the standard of construction of the old one.

I reckon 5/6 years for it.

I think you have a good point Howard, the Bosch quality is not there any more IMO.

If you're installing a kitchen yourself try http://www.diy-kitchens.com/ . I've used them for three kitchens, they do a load of ranges from cheap to expensive (including solid oak). Units come pre-assembled (glued and screwed and are really good quality). All Blum hinges and if you ask nicely they'll usually throw in soft close for free. Also they often have 10% off offers on so wait if possible.

I have a fridge freezer from Beko - one of the only ones nowadays that you can actually put in a garage and it won't freeze everything in winter. They are good quality. Pops has the same one in his garage with no issues either.

No matter what you buy though, it won't be as good as one from 10-15 years ago. But then it won't be as expensive either - we live in a throw away world. Current Bosch dishwasher is good but has plastic inside, vs the previous Hotpoint Dishwasher that was stainless steel inside and still working fine when we left it in our old house.

Dishwasher- Bosch or Siemens…………never had one break down.

Units- Our current bespoke kitchen worktop height is 1040mm (dictated by window height) and it really makes a difference for ease of use, even for my stumpy wife (5'6"). Our new, bigger kitchen will be similarly constructed.

BEKO stuff is good stuff.

My fridge freezer is a BEKO , bought when we moved in twelve years ago , as it was all we could afford at the time. Been great , A rated works a treat.

We also have a BEKO condensing dryer , and that is great too. No grumbles from me.

In actual fact , our fridge was one of the ones with an iffy thermostat , BEKO came and changed it foc ten years down the line. :thumb:
