Just booked our vehicle in at our 'very nice' :o :p dealership :) and have been told they need to inspect, clean the sleeves on the front axle carrier and fit new bolts, plus washers.

They also asked if I had a tow bar, or panoramic sun roof????

They will also be looking at what version navigation DVD I have??

Another interesting point was they asked about what service is due?

I said 'E' and does it stand for 'expensive'? They laughed, but then stated servicing categories have now changed to a numerical system and our service will be 13 or 14!!!!! Has anyone got any knowledge about this?

On an expensive note they asked if we wanted anti bacterial gunge put into the air conditioning £30 + and also a change of brake fluid? I was told how much that would cost, but have forgotten. Oh and they are also going to replace a combination filter, which is another cost on top of the servicing.

As a way of getting revenge I have asked they change the wheels that have traces of corrosion and of course the car will be collected at no extra cost and a demonstrator left, although this time they have actually asked to see a paper copy of the wifes driving licence??

Bye for now,
John

You're lucky John; our local dealer never has a loan car available, and if they did they charge 10 quid for it (to cover "insurance").

Hi Calum,
It is so unfair that there is this disparity between dealerships. Mercedes-Benz sold their soul when they got rid of the excellent smaller family run concerns and you would think that with these bigger supermarkets there would be some form of standardnization???

I think the courtesy drivers enjoy coming down here, at the height of the summer season it is a two hour round trip, plus they pop in for a cup of coffee and a laugh:)

Be interested to know what the service notices are John. The DVD is probably the free upgrade to 5.1 from 5.

If you are asking about the sleeves then here is a picture of the bits that will probably be replaced:

It will basically be two bolts, washers, nuts and the sleeves.

I hope this helps,
John

Whats with the Pano roof?

I hate to say this but because I never had it so I never asked (not an option for the estate). :o :o

Sorry about that,
John

Basically I suppose if you have any annoying noise, then complain and quote the TSB. There are three pages to this bulletin, but the rest is technical talk.

:D :) We are now seeing very high mileage vehicles that are showing wear on the sleeves so this is merely a very wise safety precaution.

When mileage on any vehicle exceeds 300,000 miles I would perhaps expect parts to show signs of wear, but I gaurantee the gloom and doom brigade will see this as yet another unreliability issue   :D

Ooops the wheels just dropped off our car (joke)

Hello John, if it isn't too much trouble, can you please post the tow bar notice, or point me in the right direction to finding it on the web (I guess that's where you dig them up).

I have a factory fit tow bar and would be interested to know if it is in imminent danger of falling off before I tow my motorbikes next week.:D

Thanks very much

Philip

Hi Philip,
I'll try to find it but it might take a while. These service items were all described as being routine and are only listed to be carried out when the vehicle comes in for service.

I am very much like you and if I hear a whisper about something being less than 100%, I want to know all the details. If I cannot find out the relevant information in time, have you considered contacting your service department, they might re-assure you. In the meantime I will do my best to find out. I have physio shortly, then I have a quick crying session to help the recovery process :p :o :o then hopefully I will start rooting.

Bye for now,
John

John. Surely your car has not done three hundred thousand miles in two year so why the need for the check?

:D :D Stoopid boy pike.

The fault was found on a high mileage car!! So now ALL cars will be checked when they come in for service.

How do you know our car hasn't done 300,000 miles??? :) :) :)

Isn't a brake fluid change around £190 all in at a dealership? I'm going to get a quote from an independant before I have this task done.

55AMG service bulletin

This one only effects certain saloons but it might be worth mentioning if you own a 211 55AMG built within this time frame.
