Least impressive selling point!

I'm deeply unimpressed by sellers with long, long lists of absolutely bog standard equipment they claim as optional extras when 90+% of it isn't, like this -

"One careful elderly owner who drove it like a vicar...."

The other owners were 20-something chavs who drove it like they stole it presumably?

Barn Find!!
So that's something else full of crap apart from the description.

Every model made by MB between 1980 and 1999 gets described as "The last properly built merc", and every single colour combination gets the described as the best there ever was, and the one to own.

I'm sure the W210 was definitely one of these; the engineering is fine, mainly because by 1994 Mercedes seem to have been concentrating on improperly built bodies...

Mercedes own used cars section...

In one advert for the same car you can have:

Navigation
Command
Satellite navigation

You glimps at the spec which initially looks rather impressive, only to realise seconds later it lists bog standard items twice or more :/

My two favourites are those ads for W201s which state either (or both)

adjustable steering column - no W201 ever had one

cam belt changed - all W201s have a cam chain.

On older cars you often see 'Dual climate control' which translates to fresh air vents with individual controls on each vent!

Another one that puts me off buying cars is the word "modified" - that translates to "weighed down by putty, filler and fibreglass" to me...

"Managing director's wife's car" always sticks in my mind

I bought such a 300se. I test drove on his local golf course which was the only place it was taken to since his wife took on a troublesome bmw 330ci. After agreeing to buy and before picking up he had the local dealer fit a new exhaust and replace the speedo (faulty odometer) at company expense and without my asking. Full MB service history of course. Oddly, it was advertised in the local Leamington Tesco noticeboard!
