Has anyone done an LED headlight conversion by straight swap out of the bulbs? If so what bulb manufacturer did you use also what wattage and lumens. Did you get heat accumulation problems at the back of the bulb giving shorting issues etc.

Don't want to get into the legality debate as have already discussed with VOSA and as long as you choose the correct cree led pattern for use with either reflector or projector type lamps there is no issue.

All comments on performance welcome

TIA

Even Osram are starting to offer LED headlights as complete housing replacements, not the same rules as HIDs.

Not a clue on your question, but interested to know myself.

Think I've decided what I'm going to use and seen them used on a Volvo and vauxhall but just wondered if anyone had done it on an MB

I also looked at this but was a while back when LED technology was new for replacement bulbs and most seemed cheap units that probably dispersed the light in all directions. Would be interested in your outcome, in fact, may look more into this again (sorry not any help)

That's why I'm looking again technology has moved massively. The ones I saw in the volvo were awesome nearly as good as the laser matrix led I have on the golf which is what got me interested again. If I could get the MB headlights performance close to the golf i would be a happy man

There was a member on here that had tried it, he mentioned all important things regarding temperature and testing how hot after so long of running time etc etc

He said about how longer they were at the back and needed more space around the dust cap (I imagine it would've poked out a bit further than normal bulbs)

That was the day he installed, don't think he's posted since!
