Lenny's CLS 55 AMG

Wouldn't A221.... be S Class wheels?

I popped the code into google a while back and I "think they came up as CL63 wheels but who knows

The wheels have grown on me - I didn't like them at first and wanted the 19" 5 spoke's that really suit the car ...but alas they do look well and I like the uniqueness of them

Correct, from a W216:

The offsets are 43 for front and back...you should have 25 and 28 front and back respectively. That's why they don't look right. 18mm spacers will do the trick.

Your tyres should be 255/35 front and 285/30 back.

Thanks Ciáran , very useful

I'll need to invest then !

Still a mystery why they were changed ?

There good but id agree with your original view. The original 5 spoke 19's are yummy.

H&R hubcentric spacers - 20mm , 30mm and 40mm available for the rear only.

What will the knock-on impact be to hub bearings etc?

I had 25mm spacers on my Kleemann supercharged ML55 running Brabus 22" wheels. In just over two years it had zero effect on the hub bearing. I got her up to speed at VMAX too.

Today though, I'd just invest in the correct & lightweight wheel set.

I can't believe you too have joined the grille badge club!:eek::D
lol I know mate. It apparently adds more bhp ;)

They aren't Grovsie

Here is the MB wheel code on them

Trust all four aren't the same wheel!

Regardless, it's no wonder your car doesn't track right and you want to get the correct settings for the wheels before you take your tracking problem any further.

The rear are wider / staggered OEM set up
Ref alignment , ie only learned of the offset issue in this bread , however unsure if he impact this will have on the overall geometry of the suspension

I agree, they may not be absolutely the correct wheels...but all else being equal, that should not upset the tracking.

Don't profess to understand the ins and outs of tracking but I would've thought where the wheels are expected to be in relation to each other would be important and therefore if they aren't in the normal positions, like in this instance, would it not mess with the results.

Happy to be wrong but makes some sort of sense to a layman.

Based on the figures I've seen when on the hunter machine , I don't think it's related to the wheels

I can see what you mean, but in this instance they are sitting in further than desired, so no undue forces as you would expect if they sat out further than designed.

Offset alone won't affect the geo. It will affect the overall track of the axle and change the handling balance. Normally wider track on a given axle gives more mechanical grip on that axle. Most cars are set up to understeer, that's why spacers on the front often help to neutralise the balance. Another way to do it is put a narrower tyre on the back of those cars that have wider tears than fronts.
