I had my front brake pads changed last night .. I am pretty sure that they lasted 52k miles! New ones were £122 though.

Front discs are slightly worn but replacement is unnecessary.

Steve didn't believe when I mentioned it to him.

I have had the car for 28k miles (and never changed any pads), and the chap who had it before me for about 16k miles had not changed the brake pads, and the first owner who had the car for 8k miles shouldn't have done.

When we took the pads off, they seemed very likely to be original from the factory .. according to Steve the various bits of yellow and white paint marking the edges (in contrast to the pitch black all round for the new pads).

Anyone else had brake pads that have lasted longer?

Most of my driving is long distance out of London so that could explain the wear rate.

My car has only had two sets of fronts and one rear set in 120K, fronts went 50k, 45K and the rears 111k.

design performance limits.

The AMG CLK 55 will have much bigger brakes -bigger discs/bigger pad area to cope with the potentially huge performance increase of the AMG upgrade. The reason your pads lasted so long is probably down to the fact your not driving the car anything close to its designed performance limits. Thats not meant as a criticism, just an explanation. ;)

maybe I just don't need to brake very often :)

If you do a lot of motorway miles that extends the life of pads in mileage terms too.

Just replaced Edna's at 37800 which I didn't think was too bad either looking at the type of driving I do.;)

thats pretty good, i changed mine at abt 60K, and im now on 80K, so see how long they last!

Has anyone seen the kwik fit adverts where they claim they will chenge your beake pads for the life of you owning the car if you replace them from there?

I wouldn't let them anywhere near my brakes

Just had an "A" service on the SClass they changed the front disc's whic had done 79,700 miles the rear's where ok.

Mine were 10% worn fronts and 5% rears at 18500 miles, so I'm hoping they'll last well.
However since the service I've only use the car now and again, and the disks go *very* rusty, so I imagine that must wear either the disks or pads (or both).

I just changed both my front and rear pad at 51,000 miles. Fronts were down to 1mm, sensors activated and burned out. Rears had 2-3 mm remaining, so replaced these also. C240 Elegance. I did not replace any discs as no deep scores and pretty even wear.

I am pretty sure that this is the first time they had been replaced. I am the second owner. 2001 model.

I know you guys are fairly sceptical of the Kwik fit guys but I've just had the rears done on mine and have no complaints re KF. I also now have a gtee that means I no longer pay for replacement pads for the entire time I own the car. Bonus! ;)

KwikFit deal sounds good, but next time they will probably insist on changing your discs aswell. and at what cost ? I would not trust their fitters skills in replacing these. i've seen the way these poorly trained boys work. Some just have not got a clue or a care in the world. The hammer seems to be their favourite precision tool in the box

With past experience, I cannot see them supplying the best quality discs either. Certainly will not be top of the range turned out items.

They will fit poor quality pads that are too hard and will wear the discs quickly and probably end up costing you more. The pads they use wear out VERY slowly.

Be aware its not a great deal unless they fit gen pads.
