Still getting used to my E350 - a big learning curve as it's also my first Mercedes.

On my previous car (and others I have driven) when locking the car, pressing the lock button once would lock it, but pressing it twice would also activate the dead locks.

Does the E have this also? I can't find mention in the manual - it just says press to lock.

No merc has deadlocks, a safety feature to make rescuing folk easier in the worst case. 1 press of the lock button does the obvious, locks the doors and sets the alarm

But you can set it so that only the drivers door is opened on one press and all doors on two presses.

Yes, I saw that in the manual, thanks. This was the only option on my previous car and it was a bit annoying to be honest so I will probably leave this so it opens all the doors for now.

Surprised no deadlocks though - most other manufacturers have them so I don't buy the safety excuse from MB.

Totally off topic and I can't help at all with your enquiry. But you have no idea how perfectly you've ordered your car. It is exactly the kind of car I hunt out when they are older and cheap enough for me to afford. I wonder if I will be driving your car in 8 years time or something!

What do you think of Distronic Plus?

Not had much chance to try it out yet but the brief chances I have had were very positive. Worked really well, and although letting it stop the car was something of a confidence test, it worked very well indeed.

I guess it will come into it's own on the motorway. Going for a blast at the weekend, so will get a proper chance to test it out.

James, I've got Distronic plus and similar on a Lexus and it is excellent compared to Cruise Control. The vehicles in front control your speed up to your chosen setting, rather than having to select a fixed speed with CC.
If you drive a car with Distronic you will never want to go back to old fashion out of date Cruise Control equiped cars again.

Mbenz76, what do you think of the "night view assist plus" is it any good? Is it a must have option or more of a fancy toy that hardly gets used. It is one of the few options I did not get on my W212 and not sure if I should be regretting not having it.

Not used it enought to find it useful yet so can't really make a true evaluation, but did take it down a country road in pitch black last night and it really is very good at highlighting the otherwise hidden detail.

Trees which through the window look slike a mass if black are identifiable as individual trees clearly on the screem.

No pedestrians encountered as yet, so will report back when I've had a chance to really use it.

So far so good though.

Here is a fun test for you.....

Sit in the car, then lock it with your remote fob.

Now try to get out without using the fob, you cant. Isnt this what you call "deadlocking"? whereby when you lock the car, there is no way to unlock it, ie pressing the unlock button on the door, pulling at the door handles or even pulling the silver locks up on the doors?

Yes, that is what deadlocking did on my previous car.

Just been watching a DVD in the car while waiting for my wife. Must say, it coped very well with it.

On the downside, it did make me wish I had got the TV and Sound options :)

All the later mercs do have deadlocks. But you dont have to press the button twice etc it is done automatically when you lock the car.

As said above sit in the car and lock the door and then try to open it with the handle and you wont be able to get out

sit inside the car, lock the doors with the key, then try and open then by pulling the handle, if the doors dont open they have dead locks, if they do open you don't have dead locks.

Don't like the sound of that. So if the key is in the ignition you cannot open the doors?

And if key fails, can't open? Or is there another way?

^ No its only if you use the key fob to lock the car when you are in it. You only do this to see what happens...and at no other time.:)
