Cost of repair is falling I've heard £650-900 ish now Some love it and when it wears out just treat it as a consumable like an airmatic strut or suchlike ie whats needed to keep it as MB intended it

When my break pump went on my CLS55 Mercedes and the car dealer I bought the car from both contributed to its fix which was 2.5k I believe, that was 3 years ago. I've heard they are getting cheaper to repair. Anyway good luck Lovejoy, the E class is an awesome machine and yours looks spot on despite the mileage and it seems to have some history on this very forum which is full of enthusiasts and genuine folks IMO.

Can be sourced now through Bosch in Germany, I also have a Bosch account to prices do very according to part numbers but generally are around the £650 plus vat figure, units are surcharged also.

I don't think you will get any goodwill now.

I knew of goodwill contributions up until around that time (3 years ago) so I guess it was across the board or at least not uncommon.

Back in 2011, MB Bromley told me the SBC had a lifetime warranty on it. They wouldn't clarify EXACTLY what that meant but it turned out to be the lifetime of a small rodent rather than anything significant... :D

I was shocked they actually contributed (MB) because my car didn't have all of its service history with them. I think the dealer had a good relationship with them maybe. Even today with prices not as they were, its still a big repair bill.

My inde was telling me some were getting goodwill regardless.

Indeed - I bought my E55K from a non-franchised dealer and took it to MB Bromley in July 2011 and mentioned the SBC unit seemed like it was a little loud (at that time, I didn't realise if I turned off the car before it had finished a pump cycle, it did a louder one next time).

They updated the firmware and counter on it FOC and that's when they advised about the "lifetime warranty".

Yes, you are talking a bag of sand to buy and install the pump if you don't do it yourself which is not insignificant!

From what I can remember at the time, if one kicked up a fuss with MB over a part that was supposed to last a lifetime, one could get them to fix the issue. My indie and the dealer knew the game obviously and had goo connections. I will never forget my indie telling me of the likely costs to fix the faulty break pump. I said its still under warranty and he said I know and don't worry.

I hear they can be got from Dronsfields new at £785 inc VAT
Believe labour to fit is around £200 ( Indy not Main Dealer ) so its about 1K plus whatever the brexit pound puts on top
Its a lot to add in to the budget when shopping for a Pre facelift 211
I dont think the second prices already reflect as most joe public buying them have not got a clue about this aspect
Trick is to buy one thats been recently replaced by looking at the date code

Well done Sir, There a great car, They do pretty much everything you ask for of them exceptionally well, Looks lovely

picked this up yesterday, it's absolutely beautiful!

Well done that man. It was indeed my car and had nothing but the best of attention during my ownership. The SBC pump was replaced during the short 'get it done for free' period by Merc Edinburgh. And the front facelift bumper is actually US spec, note the side marker lights and aftermarket headlamp washers. I still miss that car two years after selling it on.
The current seller might have, at least, swapped the foreign number plates :dk:

Good luck with it.

Just a note.

We are doing more and more rear brake pipes on 211's and more so the estates. They corrode and the corrosion is often hidden away so MOT testers can't see it.

Tip: Your MPG will improve if you remove the stack of service history from Derek's ownership. I've never seen one that thick.

Good luck with the car. :thumb:

Thanks for the tip (but how do you know they're corroded?)

You could have a quick peek here at the join with the rear flexy although they do rust for their entire length under the rear tray.

Seems a shame the blighters did not use Kunifer right from the start, unless there's a downside to that of which I am not aware.
