Looking at purchasing a 2002 C Class Coupe 220CDI

All I know of the Alfas, at least the petrols, is you must keep an eye on the oil levels.

Ok im back on the c class idea again now...

Is there anything to look for in a c200 with 67K on the clock and whats the AMG model all about?

Well after my experience with this one, I wouldn't buy another. No way on this earth can a car feel as unsteady as mine and have nothing wrong.

"They all drive like that".

MPG still just as crap. I take it steady, and the counter reads fine, maybe 41 most days. I work it out after filling today, and it's 34mpg where I used to get 35. I should have bought a 320 saloon for these running costs.

OK. Here is a simple test. Drive the car till the engine is warm and the temp needle is over 80 and staying constant.

Scroll to the fuel economy prog in the instrument cluster. Then scroll to Miles since start etc. Now press the reset button so it all goes to zero. Drive at a dead steady 50 or 60 mpg (must choose a fairly traffic free, fairly level major road or motorway). Preferably use cruise. You should see 50mpg or so or more. Let us know.

I've actually calculated this though. I was more than happy with the reading of 41 to 42 somtimes even 45 but I worked it out today after the refill and it is 34.1, and it's been pretty constant.

The miles since start since the service almost 1,000 miles ago is reading 37.5.

My fuel light comes on constantly at the 400 mile mark, usually between 385 and 410.

OK. I had one where the computer was very different from the truth and they reset it. If you are anywhere near Southampton, I know the good guys here. If not get your chosen dealer to reset it.

Then we need to check what MPG you are getting at say a steady 60 mph preferably on cruise. Why? Because then it cannot be you being heavy footed with acceleration. It would help if the computer was close to accurate.

Try one whole tankful where you never once move the accelerator more than one inch. Accelerate gently and no more than needed. Makes a huge difference. If that doesn't work you have a fault.

Interesting, maybe I ma just heavy footed :) it's just that I came from a CTR doing 28 mpg, so I expected more from a Diesel. Hmmmm maybe you have a point with my low mileage. Does it take longer for a diesel to warm up?

I had an indicated 48 mpg tonight, very pleasing to the eye. I put 2 psi extra in the tyres and also filled up with V-Power.
