hi there,
After so much trouble with my W203. I decided to find all the ground points i could and check them all for corroded or broken wires, as my scanner pinted to a short to ground, none found and all were fine, checked every fuse (all 3 fuse boards) and replaced a dodgy looking fuel pump fuse.

I then went back to the front of the car and i recall that when the car was repaired a few years back there was an issue with the passenger fog light and the fan not working, leading to the car over heating, this was rectifyed by the repair centre (over 4 years ago).

I took a look to find a mass of black electrical tape, so off came the wheel and the plastic arches and the bottom protective plastics,
I then took apart the tape to find all sorts of fixes to the wire/s and a live wire had a gash and corroded, so i cleaned it and taped it up individually and re-did some of the wires which were ground points.

My main problem is that there is a black wire with a blue stripe, its near the bottom washer bottle on the passenger side, it has a ground wire which is fine but the wire is just sitting there, it has a current going to it 0.045v on my multi meter. but i cant find the end where it should connect to i hae looked every where for about 3 hours but no luck, it comes out from a big loom and has no connection, i presume it was damaged, and simply cut to tidy it up. it may be the cause of my faults and im sure that the wire should not just sit there, the insurance say that its been more than 3 years and therefore it is not covered. At this point i just want my car to work like it should, a wireing diagram would be helpfull or where the wire should go!

thanks in advance

The spec for my car says "Heated windscreen wash system". There has been speculation over what that means. Is the washer bottle heated or the washer jets only? If the bottle itself is heated or is an option, could that be what the wire is for?

Nope. no washer jets, I dont think its part of the washer bottle syetem as it has its own set of wires that come out of the moon and go in to a plug which attaches on to the bottle actuator, but will have another look in the morning.

On all MBs I've seen heated washer system, the reservoir has been heated with a water pipe, not by electricity.

The wire colours should be a good hint, had a quick look but could not find that colour. It would be easier if merc man gave a bit more info, like where the big wire loom goes (but then he would lose the nice figure of 221 posts:) )

The wire loom feeds the fan it has a large earth and power and 2 small wires, the washer bottle actuator, and the fog light, all the systems work fine and all wires are ok, this wire comes out of the big loom, and forms its own loom and has just 2 wires a earth and the black with blue stripe eatch goes along and goes to the common grounding point on the front leg, in regards to where the loom goes back to is, up the passenger side wing in to some trunking and down the side pass the battery, and is mostly covered in the merc materiel tape. the wire has power going to it so must do something, hope that helps!

if i could get my hands on a wiring diagram it would make it so much easier

Wonders if it has anything to do with parking sensors (if fitted)? Just a thought as I am useless with electrics.

Any chance you could post a picture of what you've got, maybe that will help a picture speaks a thousand words :)

The 202 had water problems going into the junction box under the bumper that left the engine fan running all of the time and the incorrect watter level

But not the 203

Having my system running tonight, the re is no connect for the fan on the 203 under the bumper it is connected on the back of the rad, and not like the 202 where water gets into the box and the fuse box with the 2 modified lids.

This all sounds like a 202 and not a 203

You are correct there is no connection under the bumper, it goes from the passenger wing, to the washer bottle where it is held in place and the wires for the fan then run to the back of the cowling. it is behind the bumper as opposed to under but the wires are behind the front wheel arch. the car is a W203, rest assured i know my car, i have taken it apart and modifyed it beyond belief!

i will post a pic tomorow morning when lighting is better!

nope no parking sensors, my choice not to have them as they make the car look ugly in my opinion, its better to have the reverse camera! and its a cool gadget!

I agree, nothing like a row of sensors on the bumpers to spoil the look of a good car. No matter how hard they try to blend them, they stick out like a sore thumb to me.

Maybe, but they don't stick out as much as scratched/chipped plastic bumpers, IMHO.

I will look a little further in view of the above

Here are the pics sorry about the low light, im pointing atthe wire in question, and the other pics are of the area so you can get a better idea

any ideas? if some one can get hold of a wiring digram please send me one, the loom in question feeds the washer bottle, fan, foglamp and a few other parts, its located on the passengerside and runs along the wind and down behind the washer bottle!

Is your outside temperature display working? I ask because on the w202 the sensor is located in that area

This one must be the washer nozzle hose heater wire. This would be a BK/BU wire from the front SAM. There are water nozzle heaters too but that would be a BK/GY wire (black/grey). I assume the heating element being a resistive wire going along with the water pipe?

The ground connection point would be at the front. The other end connector in front of the windshield (area).

Yep i checked it over and it works fine but its on the other side of the car, just behind the bumper. Thanks

i dont think its for the heating of the bottle as all the wires are present on the connector and are not the same colour/s.

I have again put the multi meter accross it and have found that there is no current going through it when the car is on, but when the car is off there is a current draw of 0.045v. Must do something, i have spent so much time looking for a connection i have gone through everything possible but cant seem to even locate the other end which i presume must also be broken and have some wire attached to it! but it has not brought up any fault code/s, could be a stored one that my little scanner cant pick up, im just hoping that its not linked to my other current issue of high fuel consumption!!!!!
