Lotus Notes Hell

i use notes and find it so rubbish. crashes at least once a week.
I am a fairly heavy notes user (it's all I do) and it *never* crashes for me. The usual reasons for notes crashing are poor computer hardware or badly written database applications. We have some of the former, a tiny bit of the latter and it's usually fine :) .

Notes only crashes with a "red box of death", is that what you get? If it grinds to a halt it's probably not crashed, DO NOT PRESS CTRL-ALT-DEL because dumb windows *always* says it's "not responding" but if you press CTRL-BREAK it interrupts notes' current task and drops you back to a working state (possibly with an error message of some sort which you can "ok").

Good luck :)

i agree , notes is stable and no viri etc ...

but the interface came out the arc ... its totally not user friendly.

welcome to windows for workgroups land when using it

That's because people take ages to upgrade!

Notes 6 is great, and 7 is out now! :)

Notes 7 is the proverbial dogs danglies.
I have it on this very PC but hardly use it atm, still running 6.5.1 most places. We have new servers on the way and they'll be built with 7 + DB2 :D

I liked V 4.3 I think it was, but Company upgraded to V6.5 last year and it's rubbish.
Horrendously SLOW..... bring back carrier pigeons.

We tell our customers to run 2000/XP, P4s with 256mb of ram etc minimum but they still insist on running it on windows 98 / 486 ;) .

Notes 6 is pretty resource-hungry.

Some of our PCs are 2.0Ghz and it's still SLOW.
Slow changing user, slow opening New message, slow everything.

Apart from a few cosmetic changes the interface, I can see little improvement from 5 to 6, so I leave little hope for 7. The main problem though is not the look and feel but how it interacts with Windows. Basically Notes does not follow standard Windows conventions and so the user is constantly guessing what to expect.

I think 6 looks a lot better than 5! 7 is basically identical in looks to 6.

The only thing that annoys me is F5, which is "lock display", F9 is "refresh".

Anyone complaining about the mouse scroll-wheel needs to upgrade to notes 6 (although there was a fix for 5 for that).

I can't think of any other non-windows things? Care to list some? :)
