No Bids! But i suppose once your inside you could pretend you in any other 63AMGDo you possibly think that the reason they "don't come up for sale" often and are a "rare beast"....has anything to do with them not selling when new and being just about the ugliest Mercedes ever built!!?? Just asking for a friend!!!!
Sold 12 R63's in the UK, of which 7 are running around and 3 are on SORN.Do you possibly think that the reason they "don't come up for sale" often and are a "rare beast"....has anything to do with them not selling when new and being just about the ugliest Mercedes ever built!!?? Why unbelievable? One was sold at auction (mentioned on this forum) and ended up at £32k (was it this one?) . Yep the CLS55 is a bargain at £7.5k.9 bids and £8250 so far. Unbelievable. Makes my CLS55 look like bargain* of the century (£7.5k, similar mileage).
It's like Mercedes though, "hmmm we have AMG sales for saloons, estates, SUVs and limosines", and then someone in marketing said, "yes but what about AMGs for people who think Kias look good?"
*It isn't, no one wants old thirsty ticking time bombs... except me
I assumed they were unloved cars as I don't think I've ever noticed an R clss on the road in the UK (subjective but I think they look like a Kia). And a ticking time bomb R class seems even less attractive. But each to their own. If it goes for ~8k someone's going to have fun. Are they now sought after??I suspect that will end up with a "specialist dealer", priced at £30k and described as "appreciating/future investment".

Spot on. The R-Class was an insurance policy in case the environmental concerns and resulting backlash spelled the end of the full size SUV in the noughties. Whilst it could be seen as a commercial failure, it was never meant to be, it was simply a plan B. The success came with plan A, which was the GL/ML and later GLS/GLE.It's essentially an ML63 with a slightly lower body. No reason for it to be any different in terms of reliability or issues.
As one of the rarest production AMGs ever made good ones will always have some appeal to collectors. The looks & styling are subjective but I don't personally think it's that bad (having seen a black one on the road some years back). My in-laws had an R350 (petrol V6) for a good few years, and it was a decent enough car. The reason the R Class didn't sell very well was simply that the SUV bubble never burst as anticipated ... people chose the ML (which as mentioned was mechanically the same) instead.
A slight exaggeration. Any big fast Merc is often perceived as a potential money pit by many buyers, hence usually very attractive sale prices...Ticking time bomb?
