My CLK 230 went off for an LPG conversion last Saturday, and will pick up it this coming Saturday.
Having the dutch Prins system which is supposed to be the best system on the market, and the filler is going to be under and a few inches back of the rear valance, so no dodgy filler cap spoiling the lines.
Local LPG supply costs 66 pence per litre so looking forward to a more reasonable cost of motoring which should pay for itself within eight months.

It would be interesting to compare your average consumption figures before and after to see if the saving of price is outweighed by the lower consumption and cost. Please keep us updated.

Will CO.

the conversion will cost £1,150
combined mpg is 28 mpg
I average 16,000 miles per year.
Local petrol cost £139 litre
LPG £0.66 Litre

I intend to keep records of the mpg i get and will record them on this site.

Many years ago I had a 300TE converted to run on LPG , on petrol it averaged 27 mpg and on LPG 23 mpg . I had my own pump and used to fill up from 47kg tanks (aprox 100l ) at around 30p a ltr , current price for the big 47kg tanks is around £45 so about 45p ltr .

fill up from your own tanks...now that is a great idea.. i used to own a 3litre mitsubishi pajer that i had an lpg conversion done on it. 20mpg on petrol and 15mpg on gas..!!wish i had thought of that

Going on rough figures, estimating your MPG will drop from 28 to 23 from the figures others have given. When working on pence per mile, you should halve your fuel costs.

28 MPG @ 1.39 per litre = £6.32 per gallon = 27 pence per mile
23 MPG @ 0.66 per litre = £3.00 per gallon = 13 pence per mile

So over 16,000 miles costing total in petrol prices: £3614 per year
Total cost of LPG is: £2089

Total saving per year of £1525

You will have made your money back and more on the conversion within a year (if my sums are correct!)

Slightly ot..but can you advise where I can get 47 KG tanks and the relevant kit to "top-up" a lpg converted car ?

cannot be correct.

you state 27 pence per mile verses 13 pence per mile, so LPG should be HALF
the cost over 16,000 miles.

Your figures are (otherwise) wrong as well.

Hi
Any gas supplier , they are used normaly for lpg central heating . You have to turn them upside down so the gas comes out as a liquid . Hand pumps as well as electric pumps are available on eBay .

I've an S Type Jag that I brought a few years back with the Prins top of the range system already fitted and it's fantastic. The Jags not as good as the CLK around town on petrol but on LPG it works out about 28 to the gallon and on a good run 50+! No lack of performance either. In three years maintenance on the system has cost £100. I wouldn't have had it fitted because of the cost as I don't do a lot of miles but already on there, a bonus!

You are right, petrol is 23ppm

Petrol total is £3680, LPG is £2080.

Got the car back and given it a good run. Can't tell any difference in power. The fit and quality of work is very good, so well pleased.

Be very interested to hear about the mpg you get.

Who did the installation please ?

Did they stick to the quoted figures ?

Also, any chance of the photo of filler point please.

Yes they stuck to the quote given

MPG not known yet, but will feed back after a couple of tanks of LPG.

Filler.jpg

In the picture the filler looks proud of the valance, but is not, it's a couple of mm back of the valance.

Just done my first LPG replenishment.

From a full tank I drove 118 miles and then topped up with £15.85 of LPG @ £0.66.9 per litre.

All of this driving with the top down, so more drag

Tank wasn't empty; I filled up when passing a local station.

So that's about 22mpg then

Sounds about right. I'd already worked out the car does around 23 mpg on petrol with the roof down, so with the cheaper LPG it works out to around 40 to 42 mpg depending on the price of LPG.

Intereting post, I always thought conversions were a lot more expensive? I have a CLK 230K and I drive a around 30K a year maybe its worth it? But I dont think my car is that thirsty really. I do a 300mile round trip once a week and I get 36mpg obviously on clear roads . I spend about £20 every 2-3 days

Don't forget to factor in the cost of petrol used to warm up the car, into your sums!
