Hi!

Anyone know where I can buy one of those?
How much?

a. 203 830 05 85
b. 203 830 09 85

I was looking on ebay for some time now and no joy :(
I've read posts here and it seems to be a very easy mod :)

Many thanks!
Chris

They seem to come up on e-bay from time to time, but sometimes there are none for months. Have you tried e-bay Germany? Helps if you can speak german too.

Yeah, I can speak german and tried ebay.de - but still no joy!
Seen only new ones A2098300285 which I was will not work with W203 pre-facelift... :(

Hmm. Easy like pulling a trigger in Russian Roulette is easy. Its easy if it works but a complete gamble as to if it will until its in your car and coded. Mine worked.....eventually.

I hope that with help with people from this forum I will get that working :)

Wiring it is plug and play. remove gear surround trim, remove ashtray, undo two screws, pull out and unplug-reassemble. the tricky bit is that sometimes the unit won't work at all and sometimes it needs each motorised vent recoded and the car told what to do. even after an hour of coding on star mine still throws up error codes even though it works.

What's the advantage besides having a digital readout ?

AFAIK, not a lot.

The functions that you have after are the same as those that you had before except you now have a nice digital display. The fuctions that get when its fitted during a build option, such as monitoring the inclination of the sun and charcoal filter/s etc etc, are supposedly nigh on impossible to retrofit. At least thats the score with the R171.

I have it btw, wouldnt be without now.

Portzy.

I know that both R2D2 and Whitenemesis have had this mod done. Whitenemises is particulary pleased with his if I recall and has found the differences.

The unit will throw up errors in the quick test because some of the flaps that come with factory fitted luxury climate do not get retrofitted. The control unit is expecting to see these and if they are not there, then there will continually be errors logged. Doesnt seem to matter much though.

I know that one or two members have reported buying the control unit and it simply doesnt work in the car. It seems that its a bit hit and miss and you might be lucky, you might not. Seems more likely to work than not though.

I upgraded mine too on a pre-facelift W203. Was a very easy mod, to be honest it's mainly a cosmetic mod.

Unfortunaltley within the last few months my unit appears to have failed after a couple of years of working with no issue. For some reason my AC would stay permanently switched off, had the system re-gassed as we thought that would be the cause of the A/C siwtching itself off. As this didn't have any effect I temporariliy switched back to the manual control and to my surprise my A/C started working properly again! I'm on the look out for a replacement unit too, they're harder to find on ebay - like you say the newer ones come up more frequently. A new one is circa £250 from a Mercedes dealer.

As Alfie has said fitting the luxury climate control module will throw up spurious error codes that relate to hardware that isn't present. Also last time my car was in for a service got a call from them to say they're having trouble finding the charcoal filter (fitted to vehicles with luxury climate!).

Explained that I'd retrofitted the panel and all was well :D

Sorry mate, have you tried the ebay search tools on the merc upgrades site. Ive never seen a pre facelift one.

Andy
