M103 oil pressure - should I be worried?

Today took the 300CE for a spin, the first in a long time, after about 30 minutes driving I noticed the oil pressure gauge dropped to about 1 when idling in d (revs about 600 I estimate) = returning to a full 3 only after about 1200 rpm is reached.

Is this OK? It's lower than the 220 engine in my other W124.

It's done 210k miles and doesn't display any other problems apart from a small leak from the cam cover.

Thanks a lot

Nothing to worry about, I've had worse than that. Iirc 0.8 bar, in d, with a hot engine is the lowest acceptable reading. Maybe it's time to use a different oil ment for high milage engines.

Thanks for that, if you mix it with sawdust will that improve matters? ;)

It does make an improvement but you will find liquified greese is much better especially if you add a bit of lard to it and two eggs to every two litres for extra binding :thumb:

I did'nt get that far, my engine turned into a straight five and three quarters.

In all fairness to it though, continualy revving a 200000 mile engine into the red while I practiced drifting was never going to end well.:D

Try roofing tar, mixed with marmite...
