I used the Kestrel DAS-6 Dual Action Polisher...it's £79.99 from the following link.

I didn't use any form of abrasive pad on it at all as there weren't too many deep swirls - just a final finishing pad with some Dodo Juice Lime Prime which has a very slight abrasive action got rid of most of the surface swirls.
If the paintwork has any major swirls or marks you would need a polishing pad first as the finishing pad is not abrasive enough on the lacquer.

That's almost completed the motivation I need to get one
Then I can give back the Sealey one I'm borrowing that's a bit "harsh".
