I have been reading the forums and am a little confused as there are some contradictions. I have a 99 C200 W202 which i have just noticed is starting to show signs of rust bubbling on the inside of the front drivers wing, only very slight but nevertheless it is rust. Now i have read that mobilo life will cobver this if it is inside out which it is but i have also read that the service history must but all MB which mine hasnt been for the last 15k or so (how SH affects a front wing i dont know)

so the question is - can i make a corrosion claim to MB ? and if so how is the best way to go about it ?

obviously i would love to have this rust fixed for free but i am under the assumption MB will not cover it down to the car being 7 years old and not FSH

anyway and advice would be much appreciated

Cheers

Craig

Take it to your normal main dealer (or local one if you don't use one) and ask them to submit a claim. They will photocopy the service book and submit photos - Milton Keynes will then make a decision. Mobilo officially asks for a full MBSH but there have been cases where they've honoured it without. Luck of the draw it seems!

They can't insist that is it full mbsh, untill the 6th year onwards, they usually say it must have been serviced by a merc dealer within the last two years, read my post, merc. fitted a new tailgate 2yrs ago, now that is going rusty!!!!

I wanna do this also but dont think i have a leg to stand on and if i was to go in there i'd feel like a t1t and they'd laugh me out the shop.

I disagree entirely with Glenn and endorse completely what stats007 has said.

You have nothing to loose by asking. The rust from the inside out is correct, but it should really be rust spreading from the underside, up through the metal and then out, Mercedes have been carrying out any number of goodwill repairs, so you might be lucky. Do NOT demand a repair, simply state how proud you are to own such a nice car, but your disappointed with the rust you have found.

Good luck,
John

Hang on, does this mean that anyone can claim on Mobilo? When did it come into effect?

My car's 11 years old, with full MBSH, and I've got the old bubbling wheelarches. Can I get them paid for?

PJ

doesn't cost much to ask - i would pop along to a dealer and ask them to submit a claim.
Good luck

looks like i have nothing to lose - just checked and last merc service was 2 years and one month ago but only 11000 miles during that time

i will get it to a merc dealer this week and report back

I look forward to hearing how you get on.

I am in a similar position having just bought a 99 car that is just beginning to show signs of rust and I need to take it to a dealer sometime to see what they say.

Is there any evidence to suggest that some dealers are more supportive of these claims than others and can anyone recommend a good dealer in the South London / East Surrey area?

Mobilo was introduced in September 1998. They may replace certain items if older but highly unlikely.

well i got in touch with the local MB dealer (whitefield Manchester) who arranged an appointment for me at their body shop. I spoke to the man there who was very helpful, he took pics of all wheel arches as he said it was starting on those too and filled in the forms. On looking at my service history he said they may knock it back as the last service was done by a non MB garage (it was actually the palce i bought it from so he said he will make that clear) but he said there could be a chance as MB know this to be an issue on late 90's models as apparently they stopped using some rubber protective on the bodywork during this time so as to become more environmentally friendly and recyclable.

He said he should get an answer within 2 - 3 weeks - i will let you know then

If you have a '99 car you have Mobilo Life anyway.

I will be asking about the tiny bit of bubbling around the bootlock on my car next time it is in (very soon). With full MBSH and about £2k of servicing and other work in the last 2 years I'm hoping they will go for it...

Mine is a 1999 W210 with 150k miles. So far new bootlid, respray on drivers door, going in on 23rd for both wheel arches which if holed will need two wings. All under warranty.

your all asses, well lucky buggers why couldnt i have knew about this last year.

Best get me money out then as usual

just to l;et you know that i am still awaiting a decision as unfortunately there is a backlog - just didnt want you all thinking i had forgotten to post the results - i will as soon as i hear back !!

fingers still crossed
