I have two 124's both 200's, one a 1990 200e Auto, the other a 96 E200 manual estate, the 1990 one is for breaking but is complete.

Would it be possible to do an auto conversion on the 96 estate using the transmission, torque convertor, flywheel and wiring loom from the 1990 one?
Would the parts be different considering the 96 is 16v or would they be compatable?

Anyone tried a similar conversion before?

Complicated by the fact that although both cars are nominally 200's they have different designs of engines+management systems. The first is single overhead cam with bosch jetronic mechanical injection the second a twin cam with electronic HFM type injection. On the plus side I think they both use the same design of hydraulic 4 speed auto transmission so a gearbox transplant would be possible in theory. Where you would run into complications are with the detailing such as differences in the throttle and auto transmission controls. Only someone with a detailed knowledge of both cars transmissions could do this successfully IMHO.
TO SUMMARISE :- is it possible---yes
is it easy-------no.
