Ello guys right recently done a head gasket on the w124 and need to get the sluge out the engine I bought some shell helix 10w 40 which has the mb 229.3 but was looking for a cheaper alternative to put in for 24hours just to get most of the sludge out. Any recommendation you have for this I looked at triple qx 10w40 but it's MB229.1, all help is greatly appriciated in advance also would it be ok to put the triple qx only for 24hours even tho it's a MB229.1 ? Thanks again

Thanks carat could you tell me what detron ATF I need to mix in or just any ATF would work, and also why should mixing ATF help lol just trying to learn something new thanks again much appricated

Triple QX fully synthetic is supposed to meet 229.3 although it's not MB approved.

Flushing loose sludge is one thing but if you want oil to dissolve hardened sludge over a period of time cheap oils won't do it. Fully synthetic oils tend to contain better detergents that will eventually clean an engine and Shell Helix ultra is reckoned to be good in this respect. ECP have it at a very low price at the moment.
