Took 4 hours to try and change my headlights yesterday (thanks to the headlight replacement thread) only to find that the high beam H7 connector (black plug with wires pic 1) won't fit into the hole (pic 2 - the hole with two screws either side) is there a spring or clip missing to hold the thing in place as my 2005 fitting is completely different (turns anti-clockwise to remove) this has nothing apart from the black plug with wires (pic 1) that takes the H7 bulb, and the hole with 2 screws either side. Am i missing a piece somewhere that connects the whole thing together. Any help appriceated.

I think you may require a bulb holder. Its common when fitting HID bulbs to BMWs, but I haven't come across many mercs that need them. I'll have a look around and see what I can find

Cheers. I spoke with someone else who has the lights the black plug with wires pushes down into the hole in the headlight casing using a flat screwdriver. I tried it and it worked so will fit them when the bumper comes off Monday for respray.

Sorry missed the link. No, not the same lights as those. Mine came from Taiwan.

Thanks. it's certainly a strange design i thought i had a piece missing (i.e.) spring clip, but apparently just pushes down into the hole with the use of a screwdriver but is a tight fit. Luckily it's the high beam light so shouldn't need changing to often.

Superb! Glad you found out because I looked into it and found nothing relevant

So does the black plug just float loose in the headlamp housing?

No. The two metal lugs on the side of the black plug (pic 1) are pushed into the headlamp housing with a screwdriver it is a really tight fit - the H7 bulb is already pushed into the bayonet fitting so nothing is floating loose although did when i first tried it as was unaware that you had to push it down with a screwdriver. Weirdest fitting i have ever seen, i told DEPO the manufacturer should have fitted a spring clip would have been so much easier. Anyway job done now just got to fit them to the car and hope that i don't get any ECU errors.

Headlamps for both pre/post face lift cars are straight plug and play.

Many thanks. Like your new 350 - good luck with the pick-up today. Hope all goes well.
