hi,
has anyone had the problem with semi auto gears (a class 170 cdi)
i got an 'F' on the dashboard (must mean fault!) and the car refused to go into gear...tried again and worked ok, got a mile down the road went to change gear and the 'F' came on the dashboard again (no gears) so had to be towed back home :( it's sunday so will see how much it's going to cost
tomorrow :o .
anyone had the same problem, if so how was it fixed?
thanks in advance.

Never had a problem on my wifes car, and i've got an A160 on a S plate.. so i guess mine would be older, though i've only done 41k on the clock.

The only time i've had the F appear is when i haven't engaged the gear fully. Have you tried moving off in 2nd gear as opposed to 1st?

tried that mate,
the car is a V plate and has just hit the 70k mark without trouble......then this!
it won't even start,
been told it's going to cost £800 by road range (no they are not touching the car from their previous results!)

thanks anyway. :(

I don't know if it's anything like the Smart semi Auto box but we have to have our foot on the brake to change from N to R or 1st and often the brake light switch, under the pedal, goes and cos it isn't working you can't change gears! We get 3 lines though not an F.

Sorry if it's not and this means nothing!!

had this box on an a160 and it didnt impress me. Do a search for Zishan's c coupe. He had a similar problem. Send him a PM and see what he says.

IIRC they are pretty pricey to fix. Sorry :(

Afraid its going to cost quite abit to fix...

I have driven the old A Class with semi auto box and was actually impressed with it - However, SABB semi auto boxes are far smoother I have found with gear changes....
