hi all,this is my first reply/post on here so hope i get this right! i am posting a reply to the thred about the sl60/sl600.i am the guy with the car you are talking about.

i have know this car for over ten years,you are indeed correct about the later parts fitted to the car.the reason for this is the car was owened by a very welthey chap,who had a no cost limit with amg.the works by amg were carreied out not when new,but later in its life,hence the non 1991 parts.

the car spent its first 9 years in germany.when i spoke with amg about this car they informed me that it was one of 4 done to this level,so i am going on amg infomation on that as i trust them.and have the contact details of the chap who i spoke to.

i have indeed the history of the car,a full hpi report.the car is stated on the logbook as a sl600.the car has all the amg numbers and decals as it should.

in ref to the works that have been done to the car,the seat frame and other works were done because of paint lift on the seat runners and the drivers motor had a fault,so all parts were serviced,clean,and so on.

the wheels are amg,with all correct markings and numbers.

this car was brought/amg works done as part of a private large car collection,and has been looked after in the correct way since.

the sale is due to the chap now being in his 70s and wanting to down size his amount of cars.

Hi recaro and welcome to the forum .Just one thing though:
The sl600 is a v12 so why does it have that on the logbook?
As for the alloys,I really don`t think they`re originals but after all the car is very nice

i spoke with amg about this when we first looked at the car years ago,and i asked the same question why is down as a sl600 as they are a v12? there responce was,the sl500 as we all know is a 5.ltr v8,when they did the amg engine works to make 6.ltr v8 it became a sl600 [6.0ltr] but of course with the v8 not the v12,

regarding the wheels can post the part numbers and i recall getting a price for a spare from amg when i spoke to them a while back and it was over 1500 pounds god knows what it is now!

But that would make it an SL60 AMG,not an sl600

my words to them indeed,however this is what i was told and indeed on the v5.i spent a long time talking to people and amg on this car ten years ago,and i first came up with a sl500 converted to 6.0ltr amg spec,witch it is then on specking to amg and my first vewing of the car,the sl600 part. so i went with amg,and there advice and the v5.

Sorry but AMG would know that an SL600 was a V12 not a V8.

And genuine AMG wheels are marked on the front face of one of the spokes, which I don't see in the advert pictures. They look like 2-piece replicas to me.

bill, the later 18" amg two piece (wich yours look like) are in fact one piece, the bolts are for show.

Mine are definitely 2-piece rims, I wasn't aware that any genuine AMG wheels had 'fake bolts' (some M-B designs do though, and I think a few of the Brabus ones) - do you have an example?

But the point I was making was just that AMG wheels are marked externally, and most replicas aren't.

the wheels you have pictured ^a number of times are genuine 18" amg rims, but they are not two piece, they are one piece with bolts that make them look like two piece rims.
