Mercedes AMG sl600 sl60 made by amg rare

Yours are definately 2 piece Bill from that picture...
There are very similar wheels around that are one piece though... Ive seen quite a few sets...

Bill, without doubt your wheels are 2 piece wheels. Ive had over 10 sets of these over the years and they do come part into two pieces. Ive currently got 2 sets at the refurbishers, if I get a moment I will take some photo's whilst they are apart.

A set of these cost in the region of £5k new, and the 10" rear wheels are NLA.

Thanks guys, yup I have seen many 'similar' wheels on R129s but AFAIK they have been replicas (some very good, and therefore a sensible option when you take into account the current value of these cars).

Important to note that just because a wheel does not have visible fastener retainers/nuts on the rearside, does not mean it's not multi-piece.

This AMG II-piece wheel discussed above is a classic example - the fasteners bolt into the main rim piece and nothing is visible from the rearside.

If any example of this wheel has the following hallmarks on the rearside of each spoke :

* dimension stamp of 10 x 18 et25 or 8.5 x 18 et25
* 'Made by BBS' homologation
* 'AMG' homologation
* HWA part numbers

then it is a GENUINE AMG wheel and will ALWAYS by multi-piece.

Note Bill's picture showing the fastener head - each fastener imprinted with 'BBS' ! Fake fasteners for show just wouldn't have that detail and that specific homologation.

cheers

yes bill, your wheels deffinatly look two piece, the bolts have stampings on them, i will investigate this other set on andys car, and report back...

well, i examined Andy's wheels today, and it seems the refurbisher lied to him... they are two piece, and his car also has the silver arrows calipers and large disks.

i am sorry for causing an issue, but i was going on the say so of the owner of the car, who was mislead by the refurbisher, but i cant understand why?

weirdly, his bolts dont have bbs stamped on them though, i wonder if the refurbisher swapped them over for some reason??

he has contacted the original dealer that supplied the car, and they said the wheels were a four grand option, and the brakes were almost two grand, these prices were in 1999 when the car was supplied...

Did the refurbisher offer to buy them off your mate at any time ? ;)

Strange - those BBS bolts on those wheels come loose quite easy in most cases, since they are not exposed to the same grim that other multi-piece wheel bolts are where bolt body is exposed. On these 2 -piece wheels, the bolt is tucked away in the body of the rim.

So i find it strange that they would be replaced....

How did you confirm that Andy's wheels are two -piece ?

thanks

he was working on his mates sons car, fitting a new driveshaft, other friends were there...

he called me stupid for arguing on the internet, and refused to remove the wheels , citing he knew it was a one piece wheel, and wouldnt give me the locking nut key. i looked a prize plonker, (again)

i fetched a feeler gauge from the garage, and pushed the thinnest one about 8mm into the rim assembly, between the rim and the center, so proving a gap.

he then fetched a star key and broke one bolt, as it was not the exact size for the bolt, but i mangaed to loosen and screw out another, so he was pretty mad at me.

i told him to fit rays alloys of a 350z (not)
