Mercedes benz service!

I called the Dealer Principal yesterday and he has decided to take the side of service manager! I then said i am not willing to pay for the part and that i also no longer trust them with my car. I offered for someone to take the part out for me and that i will forward the bill to MB. He said no one will damage my car out of spite... but i do not believe him.

I really cannot believe the way i am being treated and dont intend to pay at all for the part. I will never buy another mercedes from that dealership and never get a service from there. If they can make such a huge **** up on something soo simple, i hate to think what kind of **** ups they make during services etc.

I can see in principle why you don't want to pay anything.
However, mistakes are made therefore a degree of morality should be applied.

Therefore on this occasion I would suggest that you pay half of the cost price of the part but no labour. I would guess the total outlay for you would be about £260.

This way it would seem the dealer has an outlay for the labour at their cost price (not full retail) and a share of the responsibility for the parts.

Your original instruction was to basically 'pay nothing'

I would see this case as being a long way short of going to court.

Indeed if the company solicitor ever got hold of the matter he or she would basically tell the dealer that they stand no chance, or it would be not financially viable.

You could of course choose the 'do nothing, pay nothing' option but then I am sure you have a conscience!!

I hadn't looked at the car or its value until now. They probably thought if you could pay £150K for a car then a £1K bill would be neither here nor there to you.

It does occur to me that if you have a job or business that generates the kind of income needed to buy a £150K car then there surely must be a more profitable use of your time than pursuing this issue.

No matter how much money you earn, no one wants to be taken for a ride. I am have the same principals as everyone else. £1000 is still alot of money, especially for something that is not my fault.

Also i have bought a new house and have not budgeted for £1000 to be goin out this month. I have a tight budget, something which i should not comprimise because of MB.

Explain to me why they should just forget the £900 bill?

If this was the other way around would you?

If I had agreed to do the work under warranty and then go and do work on someones car under warranty. Then i realise that the car work is not covered under warranty. I would realise this is entirely my mistake and i cant expect someone to pay £900, when i had assured them it would be done for £0. That is not fair on whoever i do business with.

Imagine you are covered under private healthcare in America. You go in for a hip replacement. You ask the Hospital whether it is covered by your health insurance and they assure you that it is. You are put under the knife and you wake up with a new hip. After you have gone home with your mobility back, they then ring you and demand a bill for £10,000.

What would you tell them to do? Would you agree to have the cost lowered to just parts (prostethic hip) of £8,000? Or would you tell them to go get stuffed?

I think the point why they should forget the £900 is because they messed up, and a large company that makes the kind of money Mercedes do can afford to soak up £900, I certainly wouldn't feel sorry for them, they are hardly saints when it comes to billing people, they tried to over charge £50 once and then said oh sorry someone else did the bill to who booked your car in, 10 mistake like that is £500.

Also if they have to cover the £900 then maybe the garage will think twice before they go and do work that is meant to be covered by the warranty and then change there mind and bill other people. I got £110 bill dropped by Mercedes after an argument, as they tried to bill me for adjustments.

Indeed , I remember when my father put a new Mercedes in for it's first service at 1000 miles , he was surprised to find a new battery on the bill !

On asking why a new car should require a battery , the initial response was 'good question' , then a few minutes later ' We're very sorry sir , it must have come through on the carbon copy from the previous invioce' - this was back in the early 70's , well before computer printed invoices , but still seemed like a good try-on .

Tell the dealer you will only pay the trade price for the parts alone.(Get qoute from a member here?), that way you pay the minimum and have a cool car for this hot weather

Now you know why I have continued with my legal dispute with Mercedes-Benz Chelsea, now in its fourth year:bannana:

Previous Disputes/litigation; Midland Bank, Solicitors, NHS, Camden Council, Environment Agency, flooring contractor, Avon County Council, Highways Agency and now I can add Mercedes-Benz to the list.

I do not look for aggravation, it just seeks me out:wallbash:

Just because you are paranoid does not mean that they are not after you:crazy:

Using this logic would give any MB dealer carte blanche to do any unauthorised work they wanted & leave car owner responsible for whatever the bill amounts to!

Looks to me like the dealer will have to eat this one. If they push it I'd tell them "See you in court". I wonder if their employees loyalty extends to committing perjury, which would be the only way they'd pass responsibility to you.

Lol. If I have a dispute and take it to court I'll ask your advice wity your past experience.

Exact same thinh happened to me with my C280 1 week after delivery. Quote was a scary 900 originally for a new condensor due to stone damage. Settled on 50/50 with the dealer in the end for godwill

I wouldn't - he's been without his car for four years during which time it's been sat depreciating in MB's garage.

I would advise not to take MB to Court unless you have them "dead to rights" as I do. MB legal team are specialists as one would expect and MB have plenty of money.

I was surprised when MB walked into the Court, but, it was their choice.

The Small Claims Court is the one to use, multiple claims of £5k Max, so you are not liable for MB Costs if unsuccessful.:thumb:

Its true, I am sorry to say, some people must look at me and see "mug" tattooed on my forehead. Its probably my demeanor. I just stand there and let them think they can lie to me and get away with it:)

It works for me:devil:
